Default Shimano Sedona

Hi

I am thinking of buying two Shimano Sedona reels, one FD500 for light fishing and FD4000 for heavy and strong fishing

They for $49.99 each.

Please try to give me any advice and thoughts of the price and quality of these reels.

Also, any thoughts about the best rods that can be used for each of these reels (500 and 4000).

I have around $30~40 budget for each rod.

Your inputs are really appreciated.

Thanks

If your total budget rod and reel is around $80-$90 each - the Sedona reels are great entry level spinning reels.

The 4000 is going to carry lot's of line - so look at how much line you really need - keep in mind the reel is going to be heavy and require more line (or backing) to be put on that you might be unlikely to use and it will cost you more money to fill.

The 4000 will have 20 lbs of drag and is typically spooled with heavy braid (30-50 lb) for bigger fish like Sturgeon, Lake Trout or Pike and it will hold 150 yards of 50 lb - that's 450 feet or so ..... the 4000 weighs over 3/4 pound.

The rod you might want to look at should be a Heavy Power as well.

As far as the light set up - this is a great reel for the money as well. And Again, match it to a light or med/light rod.

I have a number of them in 1000/1500 and 2000/2500 series. They have been a great little reel for me and for the price.
I would highly recommend them. Hard to beat a shimano spinning reel.
Rods, I would watch for good sales and see if you could get a little better bang for your buck.
Rods dependent on species you fish for and style of fishing.
A light or even Ultra lite for the 500 and a Med or med heavy for the 4000.

FWIW, I have a Sedona 2500FD...for $50 I don't think you would find better. Mine's on a Shakespeare Wild Series medium rod, they seem made for each other. Great quality reel, smooth and strong, and the finish is very nice.

Personally i do not think that you can go wrong with any shimano reel that you can buy.
