Unhappy Gunsmith in Grande Prairie?

Does anyome have a name / phone number for a good Gunsmith in the Grande Prairie area?
I had a jamming problem with my .444 XLR on Deer hunt last Saturday, it seems the shell extractor sticks out into the chamber too far preventing the round being fed from the tube magazine from feeding into the chamber properly. Any simple solutions that you can share with me would be greatly appreciated. This is a recient problem on a nearly new rifle, but I cannot even point at a specific event which might have caused this. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have just under another month of hunting on my Cow Elk Draw in WMU 357. I had been planning to use my .444 XLR but considering this problem I am going to have to use my Ruger M77 .260 Rem caliber rifle, unless I can solve this problem quickly.

The closest decent one would be Corlanes in Dawson Creek

Yea I'd go with Corlanes. There's O'Toole in GP but after seeing some of his work I'd pass. But if it's something simple maybe he can help you.

Give Tom Sterr a call as he is a local guy out of Sexsmith.
Tom has allways worked on guns and a good guy.
If he can't do it go to DC as the boys are right.

Ken

My 1895G does the same thing. Dave Henry in Bentley told me it's a common problem. When I put four into the tube it will jam just about every time, three into the tube it jams once in a while, and with two or one almost never. I did find out on my own though that all I needed to do is use my thumb or finger and press in the spring loaded piece where you push the bullets into the tube, and the pill pops up into place like magic. It may require a push or two but my bullets will pop into place everytime.

Dave Henry also told me that it is an easy fix. He just had to file a piece down abit. aprox. 1/2 hr labour

Good Luck

Thanks everybody for all the great tips in solving my Marlin delema! I will let you know how it all works out. I probably won't worry about it now untill after my COW ELK season closes December 20, 2007. In the mean time I will rely on my Ruger M77mkII .260 Rem caliber rifle, it's more than up to the task of killing my COW ELK, I will hopefully have a good report to share on that front soon too.

I know this is a super old thread... Just wondering if anyone knows if the gentleman in Sexsmith is still doing gunsmith work?

Any idea if he’s setup to drill and tap 870 receivers?

Thanks.
