Default Grizzly captured in Canmore - questions about 'live bait'

Just saw this article about a grizzly captured in Canmore:
http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/c...ured-1.4189863

In the article it says:

Quote:
After capturing the bear Monday night, Alberta Fish and Wildlife officials closed the power line trail from the Peaks of Grassi Road to Quarry Lake.
That's because the smell from the live bait that was put out to trap Bear 148 is still lingering and could attract more bears.
Not sure if it's because English isn't my first language, but does live bait mean they put an animal in the trap that is alive to lure the bear in there? I guess probably not, just wondering what live bait means. Does anyone know what they are using to trap those bears?

Come on, it's CBC journalism, take it for what it's worth. Thinking it's just meant to refer to a live trap. Kind of sad this bear will probably die, just cause it's developed an intolerance for dogs, wonder why ? Maybe it's been harassed those Kirelian bear dogs, the wardens rave about.

The trap they use is called a "live bait trap" which is kind of misleading ....

It "traps" the bear "live" (and unharmed) and used "bait" (like the aforementioned beaver carcass).

Down here they just plop down the trap .... no warning signs... no informing neighbors...

I've had two trips placed within 60 yards of my house.... it just owed up there one day.... my kids were playing in the back yard and whatnot.

I think the best bait to use for grizzly in a live trap in Canmore would be one of the many stinky, dreadlocked, tree hugging hippies that line the streets during the summer.

The smell is about bang on for bear bait.

What about baiting a "live bait" trap with the incarcerated?

Thanks for pointing that out, makes more sense now. The way they put it in that article it sounded like they put a live deer in it or something like that.
Can only imagine the gong show in the media if they'd do that

Grizzlies like their meat well aged, not on the hoof.

Still ....... it would be way cooler to have a goat staked to a chain and have the grizzly come out and attack it - like Jurassic park when they lowered the cow into the pen of raptors.

Or maybe a politician, hippie or criminal would do just as well in place of the goat. We could set up stands, sell popcorn and charge an admission.

This is exactly what I was thinking and why I started the thread to make sure I understood it right, when I saw 'live bait' I was thinking of the goat for the T-Rex lol. Just couldn't imagine they would use a live animal, the media/social media would probably explode

I wonder though, if you were a bear lead by smell would you opt for a skinny hippy and a overly ralph laurened politician, or would you go for the well fed Calabrian smelling Italian standing next to a popcorn machine.

Disclaimer: my apologies to anyone who reads this from Calabria, I didn't mean to call you Itaian

Hey Davey, believe it or not, these people who you speak so highly of are the same ones that cook your tourist meal and clean your room and generally do all the low paying jobs that a lot of entitled Canmore children don't have to do.
