Question WMU 164 Muely help

So this is my first year hunting, and I got 164 antler-less Muley draw. My Uncle is mentoring me and said that the Coronation area was good for Muley, so I picked it 3rd since I'm somewhat close to it.

Now that I've had a look at it on Google earth, I see it looks like the dark side of the moon, with no bush and only a couple river/creek valleys. I know some guy got a Mule buck of the year in 164, so it might not be as bad as I'm half expecting.

If anyone can give me ANY info I would appreciate it. I'm starting at Zero so I'm not expecting much, but I would like to learn as much as I can about the area. I'd love to talk with someone from there, or familiar with it.

Also I'm still learning the basics so any help is appreciated.

Drive down a lease road. See a deer. Shoot it.

My guess is your mentor will do a better job than that.

Take a drive and ask some permission. Check out likely fields. It's really all you can do. Effort will get you your deer

Do what has been suggested, take several drives out there. Take a tent, ask for permission to camp, camp in a campsite, etc. Talk with everyone you run across, ask in the cafe's, knock on doors, watch likely spots early and late. You have to put in the leg work.

I've hunted down there quite a bit. You shouldnt have trouble finding a muley doe but be sure to ask permission. The bucks are a little more scarce down there.

As long as you can shoot straight, you'll fill your tag within the first hour of being there.
I'll be there at the end of November looking for Mr. 200"

I'd say one major tip for a first time hunter going after a mule doe is MAKE SURE ITS A DOE fork horns blend into their ears so well check, check and check prior to pulling the trigger. You will have no trouble in 164 find the feed ask for permission.

Enjoy your hunt

Head out in the next month or so and knock on a few doors. Permission out that way isn't to bad to get.

Lots of Muley around there. Travel the River Valley and scout. You will see many. Not so much Whitetail, but there are lots of Muleys there.
Good Luck.
