Gold Panning on NSR

I did a search here but couldnt find anything that was helpful to me. Would it be worth it to pan east of edmonton in the nsr? Is there any gold east of edmonton in the river? im not talking like striking it rich or anything but enough to keep it interesting.

I dont much but I do know that you can pan gold in Goldbar creek. Not much just the odd tiny flake or piece of gold "dust". I did it once a few years back with school. I think about 5 out of 15 people got a tiny speck of gold.

I used to do a lot of gold panning on the NSR. Never struck it rich of course! There is quite a bit of gold flour in the river. The right areas will give you 1/2 dozen flakes in each pan full.

The problem is, allthough there is gold in the sand, the volume you would have to go through to make a bit of money is huge. There are several enviromental concerns that restrict the size of pumps you can use ect.

It is a fun hobby though.

I remember some guys that used to have small sluices on wheels working Terwilliger Park. They came up with more platinum than gold.

I will give it a try someday. I am going to be trying more towards fort sask. Somewhere between there and vinca bridge.

Try by Emily Murphy Park on the Soutside of the river, you quite often see people in that location panning etc

My dad has done it down by Fort |Saskatchewan on a select few areas.... and has found a few flakes.

Me and my dad are usaully at that gravel pit almost every weekend in the summer so it will give me lots of time to pan.

you should be practicing with your new Browning at the pit as well so your ready to shoot another bigger buck than your old man again

Yeah i keep bugging my dad but he says he has to finish the garden first plus he extended it. Where we usually hunt there is no supplemental tags this year so i will have to work hard for a big buck. It took him like 20 years to get a nice one and i got a bigger one my first year lol.

Thats because hes too busy catching suckers and playing with Italian sausages lol. You guys need to venture out west a bit this year

We did a couple years ago but we did more wood cutting than hunting.

On a few occasions I've seen people down at location Q where we usually fish the river panning. I've seen guys with just a shovel and pan, and I've seen a fairly involved setup with water pump and big sluice box.

The kids from the family with the sluice box came over when I got a fish to check it out, and they said that they had been finding quite a bit of garnet (my birthstone ) in the river, along with the odd flake of gold.

There's definitely more than just gold in there if you're at all interested in the semi-precious stones
