Default HDS Touch Portable Mod

After I sent my head unit in and upgraded from the LX7 to an LX9 last year I had an extra case left over. The Lowrance HDS-9 touch just fits. I'll probably use it mostly for the GPS but I'm going to try it for the sonar as well. Probably be a power hog.100_3671.jpg

It will use about 1 amp per hour so depending on how cold it is you'll have a pretty good guess. ie if you have a 9 amp/h battery you will get 7-8 hours, if it's colder out somewhat less. I run an HDS 5 and bring 2 batteries with me for long days.

Let us know how the touch works in the cold. The HDS gen 1 and 2's work great but given the illumination system in the touch I was wodering how it works when it gets really cold.

Have a Great Christmas

Looks, cool! I use the HDS-5 on the ice and it is a great unit. the response on the unit is as good if not better then any flasher I've seen.

The power consumption on your unit is ~1.2A. You will be able to run the unit for ~5.5hrs at full power before it dies on a standard portable battery.

Make sure you give us a review on how well it works on the ice.

Have you ever actually used a flasher?

That might be fun. But I would check to see if it would be ok in cold temps.
