Oh can't wait just sighted in some new glass on the 22-250 and 223 last night!!
I will be ice fishing some remote lakes this winter and intend to have the rifle with me in all cases.
I was just curious how many of you have gotten your wolves?
The one I got I shot with a 270 WSM at about 60 yards we were calling moose on a dead still quite foggy morning in a cut block up north. After about 45 min of calling two wolves a white/grey and a black ran out full tilt through the cut block straight towards me after realizing it wasn't a moose and my hunt was over I made the easy decision to take the black wolf. As he rounded the last woodpile before me I yelped like a dog he stopped dead in his tracks and bang dropped him right there the female kept running and ran in the bush after about 3 min she let out a long howl and so the rest of the wolves that had surrounded the cut block started to howl .....it was the eeriest feeling to have three bullets left and about 10 wolves all around you.
She wouldn't leave I could hear her in the bush and the one time she stepped out I was dragging the big male out to the cutline.
once my buddy arrived and we loaded the wolf onto my quad she stepped out lucky he had his gun handy quickly chambered a round (she was trotting away from us on a cutline) I howled like a wolf and she stopped and turned back giving him a nice broadside shot and he made it count.
It was one of the coolest things I have ever had happen in the outdoors.
My question is I have no clue on the wolf higher archy but would the drivers or hunt leaders be the alpha male and female? I ask this because of the way they howled after I shot him it was such a mournful howl.
How are others getting their animals calling or opportunity?

A few years ago
I shot one back in 2003 with my bow. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time as she wandered by my treestand at 12yards.

Thanks, it was a small one and it still cost me $1200.00, worth every penny. The second one was a large male, I gave it to a friend, he is making a rug, I will put up the pictures when he gets it back. Keep tipping them over.

There is a book out there I can def recommend reading. It's called the last grey wolf and it's about the coastal wolves of British Columbia. The great bear rain forest to be exact( where they wanna run the pipe line.) coastal wolves have been know to swim up to 13 km between islands and travel distances of 180 kms in one day. The saying is they're fed by their feet. It's actually the dominant female that makes just about every descision. She even practices something called reproductive suppression. If food is scarce she can stop the other females from going into heat. By increasing her frequency and level of snappy encounters with the other females in the pack she can put them on edge and reverse their hormones and prevent them from going into heat. Took me 3 hours to read this book and it was eye opening.

Dang nice wolves guys! Wish our "season" here in montana wasn't so "strict" granted they are loosening up the regs considerably. That and I wish the wolf hippies would shut the heck up and stop trying to control everything in an area they don't have to live in.
