I have a Gamo Supersport that I put a Charlie da Tuna (not kidding) trigger in. Pellet weights between 9 - 10gr seems to be the most accurate.

Go buy what ever Princess Auto has on sale, put a $38.00, 3-9 with rings on it, and google dieseling a pellet gun.
.22 cal is my preference, only because they penetrate better(15yds through and through with a pointed .22pellet on a magpie skull)(non dieseled too)
Stay outta your yard, and learn how to shoot from a meter and a half inside your door or window.
Yes, most built up areas do not allow such activities, conduct yourself accordingly.

The 22 cal works real good on gophers.
I've had several 177s in the past but I would say the 22 really smacks them.

If I am going to shoot pests in my yard with an air rifle, I will be inside the home, where the pellet gun can't be seen from outside, and I will be using my 22 caliber Air Arms TX200mkIII.

I feed the Magpies actually. But my neighbour uses a simple pellet gun. We differ in opinions.

Being above or below 500 fps is a requirement of the Criminal Code to determine if the pellet gun is a firearm or not.
Back yards are not public property. Back yards are private property. There is some allowance for certain people to legally enter the private property with respect to meter etc. This does not make it public.
The reason it is not legal to discharge a pellet gun in your back yard has nothing to do with the Criminal Code. The City of Calgary and many other towns and cities have by laws prohibiting the discharge of pellets gun within the city or town limits.

I usually do not have much problem with magpies till after the Brewers Blackbirds leave.
If I was to use a pellet gun, it would be a .22.

You can buy the shoulder stocks at several canadian online pellet gun stores. I been giving it some thought as I am having trouble holding my pistol steady. At CanadianShootingSupply.ca they cost around $20.00.
At Cabela's, a couple of month's ago, I bought a Crosman American Classic .22 for $79.99.

Not to mention egocentric.
Nothing helpful or special about googling bylaws.
The OP could have done that without a getting a shiny internet cop badge for Christmas.
A pellet gun is not a weapon of mass destruction nor is killing a magpie a threat to national security.
No need to blow this out for proportion.

pellet gun
A pellet gun is considered a weapon, even if it doesn't meet the firearms 500 fps requirement.

I was told by an officer than a pellet rifle under 500 fps was legal to discharge in town in MY backyard.
Not sure if he is right or wrong ..........just saying my 2 cents
Also the forum was about information and I like the Browning that was available at Canadian tire but is no loner I hear now

I know of several people over the years that have been seriously injured with either arrows or pellet from rifles in town limits and that is only one reason that they are included in most city bylaws.
Another is the fact that people would start actively hunting within town limits .
I don't personally agree with those laws but they are what they are and the police have been called in the past when people complain about "people with guns" in town!!

Well I give members on here more credit than you do.
I don't believe that anyone on here is not aware that a pellet or arrow to the eye is going to hurt or that they are not aware of the law of shooting in town.
I do believe that reciting obvious laws is only self serving to those who have self esteem issues.

Thanks. Weihrauch HW100T .22cal Hawke Sidewinder 5.5-22x42
It's launching JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy 18.13gr pellets at approx 860fps. Foolishly accurate and a sensational trigger. On a dead calm day I can shoot it to 100yards.

Not at all being blown out of proportion.
If you neighbour reports you are discharging or carrying a weapon in the city (because they don't realize it is an air gun) it is not bylaw enforcement that will show up...it will quite likely be a Tac team.
Trust me (and I do have business dealing with them)...at the least they are somewhat ****ed when they get called out for these things...if things don't go well you end up on the ground in cuffs...and worse has been known to happen.

Many people are helped on AO by other members educating others about various laws. Kinda sad you cant see that. And shooting in cities is not a great way to advance our sport especially when there are laws against it.
Your second quote last line, is just kinda sad if you really feel that way. And it is surprising what laws people are not aware of.

the only way do do this would be mr. klein's S.S.S. But haven chosen to attempt the quiet un-lawful method you must consider the chance of having wounded critters hopping around the property, trust me you'll make the paper.
your city must have bylaw types that are able to and supposed to handle these situations, contact city hall and commence complaining.

Weihrauch has a reputation as one of, if not, the best air gun.
Very impressive.

Asking a legal question is one thing.
I'm talking about copy and paste laws by Captain Obvious is akin to r just annoyingbutting in.
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe you should start a poll to see if the legal "experts" posts are helpful or just annoying.

Vote one for someone pointing people directions that will not get them in trouble or hurt our sport.
Because of course if you don't appreciate it you can always ignore it and move to the next post...or is that too difficult to figure out.

I haven't said one word that it's OK to break the law by shooting in town.
Now can we stay on topic?
After the first shot you will need to stay hidden.
Magpies leave a sentry out to tip.off the others when a door opens.
Cover a window with card board leave it open a couple.inches.
Try to to stick the barrel outside, the buggers will see that small amount of movement.

I would say that unless the magpies are fledglings, once you kill one, you will not soon get another opportunity to kill one with that same setup.
I think that adult magpies are not all that alarmed by movement or noise or even the gun but they have the unique ability to sense when they are in danger. If one wants to get rid of a few magpies you may get a few with a pellet gun. The more productive way is to leave an unwatched trap.
