Anybody else that lives out here find it funny that the guys that post Edmonton as their location know more about the deer herd than the locals??????

As far as I can tell the deep snow and cold weather got them more than anything. Between 2 farm yards we had 300+ animals that had a steady easily accessible food source. I found 6 winter kills on the home quarter alone, and these animals had life alot easier than most.

The resource is not there just to fill your freezer. We should be happy with a Whitetail of either sex.

Not against taking a doe, just not two plus a Buck.

One tag one deer Buck or Doe is enough.

Take a look at how the Suffield Elk increased. The deer are as capable if given the chance.
I agree 100%! the deer population is too low to be able to still offer the supplemental doe tags.

Interesting that many of you feel that the hard winters are what to blame for a depleting deer herds. You guys I feel are half right, in areas where there is plenty of natural habitat and farmers willing to feed these animals, we found these herds pulled through wayyyyyy better than deer living in areas where the only bush is the odd slough bottom or fence line that were overrun with 10-15 ft drifts. How can u expect deer to survive with no cover. Picked up 5 matched sets this spring in my yard where we were feeding. Our cameras proved that these bucks survived when we put them out this fall. Guys that live in areas with no major bush say they had hard time getting photos of bucks. The loss of natural habitat is way more the problem to diminishing deer herds than these harsh winters. Also get off the roads and you will see way more deer. We pushed bush in a zone that many of you here claimed have little to no whitetails left in it and the zone should be closed. Well some of these bushes had as many as ten does coming out, and these wernt huge bushes. Noticing the deer changing their patterns as well to adapt to humans, does becoming nocturnal during hunting season.

Lots of Deer out here as in May when you drive the roads they are there .. late fall snow tracks every morning so we get a number in our heads we are way over 3 for sure which is normal out here

Fyi ...Deer cull in Alberta =10sq miles =1800+ killed ..thought they got all
so zero left ..by end of summer 950 deer in that 10sq miles..

there is ups and downs in all species such is the circle of life . even a few bad years but if you trend the average Deer numbers in Alberta since the 1960's we will be ok even Shedcrazy's numbers in Wainwright show this .. you old farmers know numbers came way up from the sixtys

Had to see a few hundred Deer this year .. in a 60 mile radius from the Logging/oilpatch roads .. did I see all the deer roflmao ... no way

x3 on lots of deer
