Barbed wire buck
I spotted this guy at about 2pm the last day of the season. While there were bigger bucks in the area, I wasn't seeing any of them so this one would have to do. I spotted a few deer way out in a coulee so decided to go in for a closer look and this guy appeared, the decision was easy after I saw the barbed wire hanging off his antlers and dragging behind him. I wasn't able to get any closer across a canola field so I ranged him at 501m, settled in and squeezed the shot off. I took a picture of his heart after cleaning him but thought it might not be a good idea posting it here. Anyhow here he is, I think he's a pretty cool looking deer.

nice job
Beauty of a deer! Great mass and that wire just makes for some real "character" photos with a good story. I only wish there were a few deer anywhere near that quality left in the country by the time I finally made it out! Congrats on a cool trophy.

Good for you
he was the right one to take, just a matter of time before he got hung up some where and died a cruel death.

Wonder if you can count the wire length in the total score of the buck. He'd score a few extra yards.
Nice jumper.

Thanks for all the comments. As for doing him a favor...I think he would have rather taken his chances LOL. I plan on doing a european mount and definately leave the barbed wire on.

A few years ago there was a nice mule deer hanging around that had a string of christmas lights wrapped around both antlers. Kinda funny to see but it made through hunting season and was no worse for it. If I had a tag I would have been more than happy to have a new ornament for the holidays.

congrats on a great looking buck! You can leave a photobucket link for your other photos, that way you leave it up to the individual to see the heart pic.
