I know it as a popular fly fishing location on the Bow. Never head of it for hunting. But given waterfowl is still open for a while, the question does become "where is the open water with possible access?" I've never hunted on a river.

Done it many times late season, although its been a while. float from carsland down to McKinnon flats. fish and shoot birds, you learn real quick which is your passion lol. Careful is the birds float faster than the boat lol. had better luck landing on an island and setting up shop with decoys, have to be where the birds want to be. allot of fun, chilly. and oh remember before you put the boat in the water , where you put your plug in is free of debree, that being ice, from sitting in your yard, don't ask me why I know LOL and a little propane heater comes in hand

Must have a pretty strong east wind to 'float' upstream from Carsland to McKinnon!!!
But you're right about the islands - great place to ambush those butterball late season mallards.

I have done several cast/blast floats late season from police to Mac - can be hit and miss but you usually have the river to yourself and is an excellent way to spend a day post big game season. Be careful of the ice flows that can seemingly come out of nowhere.

Good luck.

I've never been down to the wide pools above the Carseland weir in the late duck season. It would be nice to put in and take out at the same point without having to set up a shuttle. Does it stay open into December? - any good?
