Default This year lake water level

with the massive dumps of snow this winter, wonder what the water level will be like for lakes in Alberta? it's has been a dry few years and some of the lakes around Edmonton has very low water level which makes boat launching very difficult. Pigeon, Wab and south buck just to name a few.

can't wait for open water this year.

All should come up a little, but we need three more years the same and a couple of really wet summers to make a big differance.

Last summer was as wet as this winter was. The lakes did go up a little I noticed by fall but not a huge amount. Takes alot of water to fill a lake!

Filling the lake is not the problem. recharging the aquafier under the lake so that the water stays IN THE LAKE is the problem. All the same, another good wet summer and even Missawawi will be a lake again.

well in the south, we are mostly reseviors so it mostly comes down to water management when we get the flooding. One thing to consider is the construction is done on little bow and they will be filling that thing up to the same depth as travers. That is going to be ALOT of water. and until it is filled, lakes upstream will remain low (ie. travers, macgregor, ect.)

Lakes around central Alberta will get a good recharge. Lakes in the lakeland region won't notice much of a differnce as snow fall was pretty much average this year.

I agree filling the lake is not the problem. recharging the aquafier under the lake so that the water stays IN THE LAKE is the problem.

We are getting a slow melt in the Edmonton area. We had a good wet summer last year so there was plenty of moisture in the ground that froze before the snow started to fall. I was hoping for a fast melt with plenty of run-off but I'll take anything that Mother Nature hands us. I couple of days of rain while the snow is still on the ground would do us allot of good. The lakes around here will definitely get a bit of a boost this year but nothing dramatic IMO.
