I have had 4 real close sketchy encounters with bears. 2 of them with grizz.

Yes I bow hunt, I flyfish too.

Situational awareness.....in your environment is good.

Been within 10 yards of grizz 4 times.

I have lost count the amount of times I’ve run into black bears trail running, mucking in my yard... or camping/fishing.

And yes I’ve used lethal force in one of those situations.

Loud mouth... bear spray..... seems to work for me.

I do pack my gun protection when I’m berry picking, or I feel stuff is gonna be sketchy.

But really.... it’s like prepping to get struck by lightning.

But this would be derailing....

My take on it is not on whether it was justifiable on either end, but on what's wrong with their justice system.
The only reason there were no charges , is the sheriff made a judgement call on success of prosecution.
It is not about rights to defend, its about probability of success of winning.
Many here are using their imagination too much. That shows me there is to many fantasizing about how they would justify how they would deal with finally getting to shoot someone "justifiably", and those ones are the reason why concealed carry isn't a good idea
Too many itching to have a reason why they can kill someone, including protecting property.

It isn't over for the shooter yet. He has to defend himself from the lawsuit that's going to cost him his home.

And yes.... this is why we need to have the handgun laws that we have. Too Kant ‘player One’ shooter mentalities out there.
Another case of a gun making someone feel tough. Thankfully he won't have one when he gets locked up and I'm not sure he'll enjoy he'll his time in the can.....in fact he probably won't make it out.

Default Alternative story

So if the thug didn't push the idiot with the gun.... Instead he came out and first had a screaming match, how long would the shooter waited until he felt threatened enough to shoot? I doubt the man would have lived any longer than he did.

You can speculate all that you want, but you don't know what would have happened if the deceased had not assaulted the shooter.

If we are to believe all the hearsay evidence against the nut job his previous run ins have all ended eithout incident, I'm willing to bet the thug would have lived.

The pusher might not have died the day if he wasn’t to aggressive off the start. The guy that got pushed I’m pretty sure would eventually use his gun to shoot s perosn some other day.
