Secular legislation is what Alberta wants to do but fears racist
Backlash.... https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j...51495398,d.cGE
Really are we that paranoid ,there is no doubt that Quebec has tried for. Long
Time to create a inhospitable environment for new Canadians..Going back
To Jacques Parisseau ,s comments on why the bloc lost the referendum vote .
They didn't get the brown vote..
And we send these D-Bags money ..

Marois said "We're moving forward in the name of all the women, all the men, who chose Quebec for our culture, for our freedom and for our diversity." That's a good spin... all these people who chose Quebec for it's freedom and diversity? They chose wrong. No freedom or diversity allowed.
Montreal has a very old and large Jewish population. Been here many generations. Anyone wearing a yarmulke need no longer look to any government or crown agency for a job.
Marois, Morsi.... more in common than just similar names. Oppress anyone "not like us".
This should be an interesting discussion. What are the guys that hate both Quebec and immigrants going to do?

The Quebec news media is not entirely out of line on this one. How often do we hear comments directed toward immigrants along the lines of "Fit in or get out!" ? The big difference is that Quebec is trying to make it law. I think they want to take on Ottawa again with the desired outcome of not quite separated but more moola for Quebec. They aim to fan the separatist flames. They already have discriminatory language laws there whilst the rest of Canada had trudopian bilingualism rammed down our throats. They'll pull this off too.

But this isn't just immigrants, this is all religous symbols. Can you wear a cross around your neck? I know lots of Mennonite women who drive school bus and wear a head scarf.
Many people seem to be focussing on turbans and alike, but it will go further.

I got no problems with turbines or other funny hats.
What I DO have a problem with are those Halloween costumes that completely cover a woman.
How do I know its a woman?
When I see one of THOSE in a bank or anywhere else where money is kept; or a government building, I get real nervous. Show your face, and show you're not carrying weapons or go away. And show your face on a driver's license photo.
If that attitude "offends" anyone, they're free to leave the country.

I'm torn on this, getting tired of others' freedoms being pushed on me.
There should be a complete separation of church and state, I would have no issue whatsoever with laws being changed to reflect this. What's next in politically correct Canada, bring in sharia law - make it legal?

It is called the "not withstanding clause". A province may use it if they lose a charter case. Quebec has already over language issues, Klien threatened to use it over gay marriage. Quebec knows they will lose a charter case over this issue and has already said they will invoke not with standing clause.
There isn't a lot that can be done

In a province that lacks money and jobs this is a great move. This way they will sure drive alot of immigrants (including anglophones)By tightening the rules around them. People end up moving out of province and the less qualified French workers suddenly find a job or the Feds offer them more money not to go ahead with this.
I actually agree that somethings should be banned like the dresses that cover women from head to toe and you dont know what you are looking at. but a cross, a turban or a head scarf is not a big deal. also, quebec is a catholic province, does that mean all catholic nuns will be asked to dress differently ????. Whatever, let them be, and we'll see where it gets them

Sharia law... you must have the prototype for the jump to conclusions game.

All one need do is read the newspapers, sharia is already alive in Canada and some want to make it legal. There have been "honor" killings in our country.

I say good for quebec and will patiently await the outcome if this law passes. It will be interesting to see what they do when the fleur de lis is deemed a religious symbol they can't display.

sometimes to be fair you have to throw out not bad stuff with the bad stuff. if we dont want to deal with govt clerks in burkas maybe we will have to outlaw crosses too. its like gays wanting marriage benefits they are not having families why should they get benefits the answer is to eliminate these benefits and increase baby bonuses for everyone. if two roomies cant get benefits because they arent having gay sex is that fair? i think gays should have to prove they are having gay sex after all thats what seperates them from other people and is the only reason for them to get tax breaks bereavement spousal this and that and whatever

maybe i took the point to a too far but logical conclusion that if gay sex is the only thing something is based on then it isnt worth anything except for gay sex and since that isnt worth anything to me i wont be lobbying for the job you have been thinking about

i applaude quebec for clamping down on all religions equally christians and jews will have to abide by the same rules although they dont have in your face customs that cause problems. so quebecers are limiting themselves if they think the greater good is important namely these in your face foreign customs that its really all about but what can you do?

Nobody in the media even reported that Marois stated "THE COUNTRY OF QUEBEC" in her speech today.

Who says Alberta wants secular legislation?
Who cares anyway?
Quebec is the most racist provinbce in the country...they use a document they7 refused to sign to thumb their noses at everyone and they have been on the nations teat sincxe transfer payementswas first legislated.
All they have going for them is a dairy industry, maple syrup and an NHL franchise.
