Default Waterhen Lake - Tawa Cabins

Anyone been out there since the new ownership took over a few years back? specifically Tawa cabins.

How has the water levels and fishing been? Always seemed pretty decent but it has been a few years since we were last out there?

I can’t say for Waterhen lake levels specifically, but I drove over the Makwa River in the same region last week and it was almost dry. It’s rained a couple days since, so that will help but I assume that water levels for the lakes in the region will be quite low as well.

Thanks Sam ..... some info better than none at all. If the water levels are low it makes getting into the spring money spots might be an adventure on that lake.

We tented at Tawa about 14 years ago and it was absolute hell. It poured rain and our sites got flooded, the inside of the tent was a swimming pool, everything we had was soaked, one of our kids was horribly sick. We had one night left but they wouldn't rent us an empty cabin unless we paid for 2 nights. We'd already paid for 2 campsites so we said thanks but no thanks, and I told them that everyone who asks me about Tawa will be warned not to go. Not to mention that the cabin area looks like a redneck's trashy paradise.

Hopefully the new owners have done some work since then...

They have a facebook page, the pic of the launch area from yesterday looked like the water was fairly low.

The area got an inch of rain earlier this week, which will help somewhat.

My concern was the opposite. We were there the first year ownership had just changed and they did not seem to care, place was not clean, not maintained, and haven't been back since.

Ownership and pride is a big thing - just curious if they are still treating the place like that .... because if they are, it's likely gross, dirty and run into the ground.

We were there a couple years ago. It hasn’t improved but it was still “liveable.”
Difficult communicating with them regarding our reservations and mostly service. But I’d go again, I like that lake and it has a lot of memories for me.

New owners are likely to busy chuckwagon racing to run it properly.

Waterhen is awfully low. Getting boats in and out will be an adventure. The owners are good people, I would say the lodge is better than it was previous to the new owners. I don’t stay there, I just live close. I also live near to the photo posted and drive over the Makwa every day. It’s up quite a bit in the past week but not even close to normal mid May levels.
This will be the first year in about 25 years I haven’t spent May Long at our cabin at Keeley as I have a memorial service to attend. I am extremely paranoid about my kids having my boat as getting on and off the lake there is definitely going to be difficult due to low water as well.

Thanks for the info ...... might try and get out somewhere in the next couple weeks - but if the water is low in that area, I might look elsewhere. Maybe something new.

We got two inches of rain yesterday, which should help things out. Supposed to rain the next 3 days too.
