I never had anything to do with the 30/30 when growing up, dad had one in the basement, but he got it in his yearly horse trade that he did with some friends, I never saw him shoot it either.
We always used 270's, 30'06's, and 303's for big game.
That is why I said I didn't know they made a saber tip in 30/30 - I assumed they called the round tipped 30/30 bullets something else!!
Interesting, I pulled a bunch of 150's about 20 years ago, and they were staked - indentations punched inthem.
When I asked him about it, my father explained that it was an attempt from the "big brains in the plant" at making the bullet hold together better!
I am going to post a few pics of some VERY different 30/30 bullets from the
C.I.L. line that I also never saw till i just looked in the box I have from the museum - FMJ , and a FMJ with an indented meplat, like a pistol bullet!
NEVER saw any of these before, has anybody else?
