You cannot help people that will not help themselves……
Take out costs more than buying any food and cooking it yourself, always has always will. Chocolate costs more than rice or oatmeal, always has, always will.
How is this even news?

It's news because of the attitude of the me first generation getting more and more traction, and will get worse if JT gets elected. He thinks terrorists are a group of people who we just need to talk with and get to know, instead of dealing with swiftly and strongly.

As long as it someone elses's fault she has nothing to change. IMO people change when they see their part in their misfortune and act on it.

She's from a society like ours that blames objects not behaviour. It's the fork's fault she's a waste of air. Just like guns cause crime.

I used to know a couple poor families when i was a kid.
They were all skinny as a rail.
Matter of fact one hardly saw an obese person back then.

But that was back in the days when people had to work for their sustenance.
There was no such thing as a free ride.

There's a free gym called the park, the stairs, the sidewalk, etc. I've also heard good things about bicycles, which are available second hand.

Obviously the woman needs a tough love wake up call & polar shift change of attitude as to who is ultimately responsible for the welfare of her & her children. A smart person could stretch those socialist welfare dollars into more frugal ' wise purchases, just because she lacks the smarts and determination is no reason to pay her more. Its a shame for her kids though.
There is also mans best friend duct tape placed over her mouth

I know of people who can't hold a job today because of mean bosses. The old slave drivers expect you to be there on time, every day, and do something productive while you're there.
Who can work under those conditions?

You know, the people I really feel for are the working poor and the middle lower class.

I remember as a single mom working two jobs how bloody difficult it was not only to buy healthy food, but the time to prepare it. In retrospect, that was easily as great a hurdle, if not an even greater one.

When you're rushing home after a first job, and have precious few minutes before the next one, it's next to impossible to prepare whole and balanced meals and school lunches. You end up relying on fast, cheap and processed foods much more than you should, and literally because you don't have much choice.

When you look at the demographics of obesity in the United States, there is a strong correlation with poverty. And the most obese country in the world right now is Mexico. Now, it's somewhat deceptive because to look at an obese person, you would think they have an abundance of food. And historically, that's exactly what it means. However, obesity in poverty is usually the result of people who are nutritionally starving, but have better access to nutritionally deficient foods. As a result, their bodies are constantly hungry because they aren't getting the nourishment they need, but they do have access to the wrong kinds of foods.

In remote areas of Mexico, expecially in impoverished regions where big box retailers have established, there are many villages that simply have no means to get to where food is stored. As a result, people tend to covera large distances by food, donkey, bike, or bus – but all of these methods of transportation are slow and unpredictable. Meat and dairy spoil quickly in the sun and heat, and so too can fresh produce. As a result, these disadvantaged communities end up bringing in a lot of packaged foods and processed foods which do not spoil.

Similarly, there are impoverished areas of the U.S. where there are no grocery stores. Like, none. Although people try to make bus trips to other urban places with grocery stores, there's only so much you can bring home on the bus. These people end up infilling with the kinds of foods that are sold in convenience stores. And the sad part about that is they end up paying more for their food over the long haul than the people who can afford to live in an area close to a grocery store.

The moral of the story is that this woman really irritates me because her sense of entitlement will cause many to dismiss the very real issues associated with nutrition, poverty and obesity that people experience and have very little control of.

If I had to sum up this whole thread, this is what I would use to sum it up.
