Almost always these partnerships are a lease situation that maintains the ownership of the land with that of the landowner and not DUC. Benefit to the landowner is a tax break. After all the land that DUC is interested in is marginal farm land at best and of little value to the landowner other than that of a tax break. So permission to hunt that land is still required from the landowner, some are agreeable and some not. The permission issue is separate from that of DUC unless of course the DUC flat out owns the land. Same goes for the AFGA and other Conservation groups. That's why in another thread from another time I was making the point that it's important for those of us who donate funds to conservation to be aware that not all conservation is favourable to the hunter.
Well said indeed

I fail to see how securing habitat to produce more ducks is not in the best interests of those who like to shoot ducks.

Even if hunting is not allowed on that property; more habitat is always a good thing.

LOL This sounds like the ever-popular "The land is posted 'No Hunting' so even the landowner cannot hunt on it" What a hoot.

Nope. They had camo coolers and duck calls as incentive to join recently. Plus they have media dedicated to duck hunting. They seem pretty proud of duck hunting these days.

There are cases where DU will pay for easements
on a portion of private land that usually holds water to become an easement.
It can never be drained for agriculture and the easement remains even if the property is sold.
Don't think DU would show up the map tho, since it is still owned by the farmer.

Exactly,,,, though the easements can have a time frame,,, we have a DU Conservation easement on one of our properties that is good for 25 years.

One thing lost in all this rhetoric is DU is not a government agency, therefore DU owned properties are not "crown / public lands" where the public has an automatic right to enter. DU does allow hunting access on many of its' own properties, but as noted in this thread many times over there are numerous situations where DU may not have title or has leased out property and access is controlled by the real owner or leaseholder.

Complete BS, they raised the price big time in my area! DU land should also be taxed by the county at recreational rates.

If you're funds are unlimited, then fund as many groups as you believe in.

But I'm assuming that most on this forum are like me in that not only are we passionate about hunting but our funds are limited. So just know that your dollars are also your voice. If the groups that are against hunting continue to gain strength and the groups that are for us continue to struggle then the pro hunting conservation groups will be forced to partner with conservation groups that are against hunting. Eventually that will lead to less access, so less hunting so less conservation dollars. Prime example being DUC, and AFGA. Both these groups have been traditionally pro hunting but lately due finances both have been forced to partner with anti hunting conservation groups. At some point it will be anti's partnering with anti's, the pro hunting will become a relic of the past. Ironic being it was people such as ourselves that originally started "conservation".

So whats the point for ducks unlimited to invest hunters dollars into a place where hunters cant go , l say ducks unlimited , pull outa there , let the place rot.

It is a darn good thing that very few Alberta farmers actually frequent this board,,, if the majority did, there would be very little (if any) farm land in Alberta that would open to hunting just for the asking.

This^^^^...and anyone who thinks DU exists to buy up property so hunters have a place to shoot ducks did not do much research before they donated...or never donated to DU at all.....

Exactly, without habitat for nesting, there would be no ducks to shoot.

Then you will be quite content on all this public duck land and stop bothering farmers for access
