Don't be sorry, just wish I had seen it. If it happens again, I would be in.

Looking for plastic barrels as well...
Seen some large blue plastic barrels at Shipwreck Marine along 50th street just the other day. I think the posted price was $50 but dont quote me. Must have been 6 or 7 of them along the fence.

Not sure about bulk but a 4kg bucket at Costco will produce a ton of popcorn

I've made several heavy duty beaver cages for myself and a few guides in the area that I hunt. Would be willing to make some if people are interested. PM me if you're interested.

Where are you located Finner?
I would be interested in a cage or 2 if you were close to me. (Calgary)
No offense to you Mike, only cuz you are located in Edm. If I know I'm heading up that way, I will inquire with you as well.
Thanks,
SS

Default dog food

If anyone is passing through Red Deer to go get some in Calgary, or heading north through Red Deer after picking some up, I would like to get in on this. Could pay an extra price per bag or work something out I am sure. PM if you are willing, thanks.

If you want to attract Bears as early as possible, set Baits close to running water, beaver dams, early greens and denning areas etc. If there are no damns or good denning areas near where you bait, run a grease trail from beaver dams and denning areas to your bait site. Run grease trails also from any where like south facing pipeline hills that will green up early. You can run the trails 6 or seven miles and bears will follow them in.

If you have good grease soaking areas at the bait site the bears will create new trails for others to follow as they work back and forth from the sites. The whole idea is to try and draw the bears in from where they hang out early. Left to their own devices they won't wander far from the early greens for the first 3 or 4 weeks after coming out of the den, even with lots of odour from a bait area unless the bait is within a mile or less. Hope this helps, best of luck.

got my cage figured out. Picked up a 45 gallon drum from the car wash in spruce for $20. It unfortunately only has the two small holes at the top so filling it with popcorn was a process, plastic barrels with a screwable lid seem to be the bear baiting unicorn.

I cut a 20" x 20" square out of the top of my barrels. I then screw 2x4's on the edges acting as a backing. Then screw the top piece (that i cut off) back onto those 2x4's as a "lid". I have to bring a small drill when I re-bait but its worth it for the $ you save (cheap, plastic rain barrel) not to mention it's quick filling that way. I used a basic skilsaw with a 7 1/4" blade (wood framing blade) to cut the plastic. Works like a charm.
