Angry HID & "fog" lights

Fogs: Dodge the worst. GM next.

HIDS: ban them !

It's that time of year we are driving to work in the dark, getting blinded by too bright lights.

E-mail DOT: http://www.transportation.alberta.ca/3106.htm

I've been to the optometrist several times , to see if my eyes have some kind of problem : nope.
They also told me the most common complaint are these after market "off road" lights being used on our HWYS.

Do the right thing: turn your fogs off when meeting/following others.

Why should I have to hold my left hand & forearm up to block the lights ?

I agree with you 100%, but with little to no enforcement, the tards that drive with these lights will keep doing so.

The lights are not as big a problem as the dipstick behind the wheel.

We now live in a Me, Myself and I society, where common courtesy, respect for your fellow man, and decency have all but gone out the window.

I mean what did you think we were, human?

The only thing wrong with this world is the people in it.

i dont find fog lights annoying at all, but the cheap HID kits can put off alot of glare. without a proper projector/reflector they spray light everywhere. you can retrofit projectors out of high end cars such as the bmw's and put them into regular light housings on any car with some know how, and they look/function great with no glare. just expensive.

Have you ever taken a moment to think about why you get "brighted" so often?

I used to believe and hate these new lights that are out. When I would go by them I have blue spots in my eyes for miles/km. when I laid down to sleep all I could see was the blue spots burnt into my retinas. Then one night I realized that it wasn't the lights at all, it was the screwdrivers fault. I run LED lights in my Kenworth and it's a rare thing that I get flashed, and when I do I feel it's from a person who hates the lights because they recognize them for what they are. Some people say Don't look at the lights, rightly so, but you should able to look past them. I don't see why I should have to look straight out the right window when I meet these things and no else should have to either. Take a screw driver and turn them down. Oh but just hang on a minute, then these people wouldn't be able to drive a 130km an hour plus and see 4 km down the road and now add a thirty inch LED light bar on top of them and you can really get in a hurry. Sorry, my bad.

Why am I getting brighted, because my lights are lights and they shine this thing called light, go figure, Im not running around with these with these extremely bright driving lights, just using my fog lights to help out with see better. As for turning light down I tried that and the brighting got worse cause every person that drives a curb bitter thinks there brights.

I think you missed the point, if you are bening flashed regulary. Your light are a problem for oncoming drivers.
Do you have a lifted truck? I recon thats the bigger problem as few adjust there lights after. When i was a mechanic in New Zealand all vehicals went over the pits every year for a warrent of fitness one of the thing checked was headlight adjustment, using a targeting board at set distance highs and lows had to be on there line. Bet over half the pickups in alberta would fail.

I got a 24 inch light bar on the front of my truck that I use on the highway. Now, some people might not understand this concept, but, when I see on coming lights in the distance, I turn it off, not wait until the vehicle is 200 yards in front of me.

Btw, it works great for doing 165km/h during a snow storm at 5 am on hwy 2 lol.

Kidding kidding.

Fog lights are just that low projecting lights that help in fog snow or rain. If the weather is t doing any if those thing you don't need them.
If you use them like 90% of the people it's just to look cool.
Then you get the jack arse with a big lifted truck hid lights without projectors and hid fogs not properly adjusted and way over power. It's inconsiderate and rude ....I think you should all get tickets.....oh and 95% of these truck won't run mudflaps either.

I don't understand why people can not aim their headlights. I put hid's in my new f350, aimed them and never get flashed, unless I have a trailer on.

I agree about hating cheap hid kits, they suck. I put sets in my superdutys, but they are $400 each and have a very visible cut off. (brightsource)

The first thing I put on my trucks is mudflaps

If all the drivers with them understand that concept it would be good. I have no problem with stuff like that being used if it used properly and with respect. Respect, holy crap, did I think that word out loud. . Sure do notice it though when people do use it. Sticks out like the proverbial deuce in punch bowl.
I've seen drivers go that fast in a snow storm.

Thats what headlights are for.
Using fogg lights under normal driving conditions is improper use.

Learn how to drive....you are supposed to be looking beyond your lights not to the lit area right out front.

Further... looking from a brightly lit area to darkness you lose visual accuity at distance....making it harder for you to spot and respond to what you otherwise would have time to respond to.

And... do you really think you can respond to something in the ditch 30 feet in front at 110?

Finally... the rest of us like to see whats out front as well... but its hard when self interested idiots make sure that we can see nothing but them.

You touched on another point.

For the love of God folks... adjust your headlights if you are towing or hauling a heavy load.

There was a time when by default... truck headlights were pre-adjusted to compensate for this. Nobody does it anymore so it is up to the driver/operator to do it himself and it takes about 5 minutes.

Evidently not. He's part of the problem.

Ruttnbuckcojack - the reason you're getting flashed IS YOU'RE TOO DAMN BRIGHT. Being "able to see what's in front of you" is blinding the oncoming drivers and taking away their ability to safely drive and see. Please just dim or shut off your accessory lights till the other vehicle is past and everyone gets to go home at night.

Part 2 of the question is dwarf or just low self esteem? Just kidding. But guys like that don't realize they are part of the problem, especially when doing 160 and everybody they pass is a loser and the cops are picking on them. I know the type

Sort of makes ya want to roll with a bag of ball bearings on the seat beside ya...doesn't it?

The thought that if another driver hits a deer it might get flipped into there path never occures to some guys.
It never occurs to them that an oncoming vehicle might end up there as well or that everyones insurance goes up when this happens.

Nope...those magic lights make them immune from harm and what happens to the other guy is their problem only.

Its a dog eat dog world and the best way to get through it is to look out for number one...hang everyone else.

I guess...by applying that logic...we should all just go out and buy bigger and bigger lights...one upping each other until every vehicle is lit up like a freight train and we are eventually forced to drive with welding helmets on.

Yeah.... that makes sense.

x 100.
I drive for a living and as I get older.. the night vision is a little less acute. It takes longer to readjust from the a**hole's poorly aimed fryers. Truck drivers get hammered for things like that during inspections but all those jerks with the jacked up pickup trucks never get looked at. Not all of those after market lights are DOT approved for on road use either. Some are for off road use only and, legally, are supposed to be covered while driving on the road. But again, the pick ups tend not to be checked.

Could someone tell the justification for driving in the city under perfect driving conditions with fog lights on?

Always seems to be the same people with loud mufflers on stock trucks, who do they think their fooling!

They have brain damage! Cause the only time they can breath, is when they pass gas.
