Default Golden Trout

Friend of mine is looking to fish for Golden trout sometime next year. It's his quest to catch all the trout species. I know they are an Alpine fish but not sure what lakes in Alberta or BC have them. Can anyone help?

THanks

Barnaby Ridge, and South Forks lake, but only if your ready for a good hike, I've always been meaning to get up there, but always get caught up in the great fishing, on the castle river and other tributaries!

The lakes in the south are easy hikes, the ones up north, probably twice as hard.

Was up to Barnaby this past summer, only a couple hour hike in but very steep in places with loose rock. I know the other lakes are much longer hikes and some are mostly heli in but I'd hate to send someone into Barnaby thinking it's a cake walk.

Fish were willing but fussy at presentation. Sight casting to cruising fish is always fun!

Barnaby is a sweet spot. I'm mildly out of shape...maybe more than mildly lol. But I did it a year and a half ago. Scenery on the hike is worth as much as the fishing. The hike was tough for myself, I don't know how many hours it took (3 possibly maybe a little more, I'm heavier and very slow) but I made it. Like the guy above mentioned a portion is steep and lots of loose rock. There are 3 lakes when you get up there. I was skunked, but if I remember correctly the second one seems to be the lake you want to fish. Could be the third. Maybe some other guys can weigh in. I had a lot of help off this site from members pm'ing me directions and tips. Good luck!

I've hiked into Michele Lakes once and Coral Lake twice (the other two lakes in Alberta with Goldens). If you have any questions please don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.

Dang nobody said Rainy Ridge yet? My son and nephew went up there a few years back. She is a tough hike and ya got to be half billy goat to get there. No defined trail just bush wacking. That's why I never been there in years. hehe

She is grizz country. Be aware. Pack heat.

Ya been up there Steven Noel?

Coral lake is good but the trail really got pounded in the flood a couple of years ago. You can helicopter in for a reasonable price from west of Nordreg. Take some bear spray
