Default Teach them early

I figured it was time to start with gun safety and general firearm knowledge for my little/not so little ones anymore. My 9 year old is a natural and retains info like a sponge. I can’t wait for summer to get them out at the range

Don't underestimate how much they soak up. When my oldest daughter was 10 her 4H club went to play laser tag. She dropped out of the game and I asked her what's wrong. She said "Dad, for my WHOLE LIFE you taught me not to point a gun at anybody, and now I just can't do it!" LOL

I started taking my daughters to the range when they were 7 and 5. Over time(it didn't take long) they both became very good at shooting. They both had youth licenses for a couple of years and shot grouse with me. Even though my older daughter likes to eat wild game she doesn't like to kill it. She still accompanies me at times, it's more just her and I spending time together, I'm not going to put her through hunter training(called the CORE) unless she is really interested. My younger daughter was very interested and did her core, her first year with her tags she shot a nice 4x4 whitetail. This year she really wants a mule deer. I love getting out in the mountains with them.
