EU farm protests spreading

I haven’t heard much about the European farmer protests lately. Apparently the protests are spreading across Europe and into Great Britain. Food distribution centers are starting to see empty shelves plus disruption to many other basic supplies. Others are joining in the protest like the German railways, even cab drivers. Major roadways in Paris blocked, can’t believe the number of tractors. Large protest in front of Brussels EU buildings. Also media is blocking video footage of protests, removing uploads to X platform. I went on BBC and no mention of all this.

There is many examples of rebellion when leaders abuse their power throughout history.

Yup, watching this with a bit of trepidation...

While this is a good thing in the sense that government overreach is put in check, there's always the risk that the iron boot will come down on them and everyone suffers.

Especially if the corrupt leaders bring in outside help from their unholy allies.

If Holland brought German police in to quell the farmer uprising last year, who will the Germans invite to stop the protests in their homeland?

From what I can gather from a former Dutch farmer who recently moved to Canada, most of these protests revolve around the government attempts to handcuff the farmers and take away some of their power. In specific parts of Holland the goal is to drive the farmers off of the land to allow for development.

In the end government only has an iron boot if citizens comply. That boot consists of people who choose to do a job they are not robots

Ursula von der Leyen scraps pesticide reduction bill, in gift to farmers

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced Tuesday that she will scrap a contentious upcoming bill that aimed to slash the use of chemical pesticides in agriculture.

The Commission first pitched the Sustainable Use of Pesticides (SUR) regulation in 2020 as part of its Green Deal, von der Leyen’s signature policy project, that involves ambitious and legally binding plans to make the Continent climate-neutral by 2050. The Commission then formally proposed the SUR bill in June 2022, setting a target to slash pesticide use and risks by 50 percent by 2030.

“The Commission proposed SUR, with the worthy aim to reduce the risks of chemical plant protection products,” von der Leyen told MEPs at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. “But the SUR proposal has become a symbol of polarization."

Putting it in perspective.

There have been farmer protests in France weekly for 20 years.

When there last the trick driving was to try and figure out where protests were going to be and go around them.

Got stuck in one and had to take back roads to may it to Juno Beach.

They are very, very socialist there.

Having lived there I can say very few folks can hold a candle to the French for their ability to protest...truly a machine and a way of life...

'Cept of course for the Dutch and the Germans and the Spaniards and Portuguese and Italians....and Irish...and Scots

You get the idea...they don't suffer in silence. The bus & cab drivers decide if anybody gets to work in Paris, the baggage handlers decide if anyone flies

We have a lesson to learn from them

Me as well, it’s been a long time coming.
The push is finally going back in the right direction.
I hope the push is far reaching to get back to where we were previously and reminding governments who they work for….

It is and while I’m onside with May of the beefs they have had… they do tend to really err on the side of socialism on many of their past strikes, protests, and blockades.

I chatted with a few people in the Netherlands. Generally people in cities believe they’re at huge risk living below sea level and sea levels rise.

On the other hand the farmers were very upset because the government decided to reduce CO2 they would just produce less food, not export and hence have a lower carbon footprint. It included reduction in use of fertilizers and overall and huge drop in income. Liberals also moving down this path.

In France… they would protest because they wanted better tax breaks, higher prices, reduced imports etc. lots of other reasons.


Is this protest stuff something new, bigger than before or just media hype to sell news. Trying to sort that out.
