looking for good bear fat
My father in law and I both shot our spring bears but unfortunately neither of them had any fat at all on the bodies.
I'm hoping somebody in edmonton is willing to save 5-10 lbs of fat to trade for some sausage.
I'm looking to use it for cooking so i would appreciate it if it wasn't rancid
thanks

Purgatory? Is that you?
Haha sorry. If I get a fatty I'll let you know. Curious what you'd be cooking with it?...

No.
But I did see the handle.
I desire bear; I have had it in my youth.
We never questioned, we were hungry.
Want rain.
It was always fall bear, it was rich?
Want fire, but will wait.

Dang I shot a bear last week with over two inches of fat on him couldn't believe it. If one of my family or friends get one with fat on it I'll save it.

My first batch of soap is curing right now and so far it looks very good. Was easier to make than I thought. I used a mix of bear fat, palm oil and coconut oil.

I know absolutely nothing about bear fat or making soap, but does it impact the smell of the soap? Have great moisturizing characteristics? I've never eaten bear, and don't find the idea appealing at all...so just curious. (ZERO offense meant towards guys who do) I'd like to learn more about it.
What does bear even taste like? And don't say "bear". lol

Depends on the bear.
Fresh out of hibernation and they haven't had a chance to purge their body's of the ammonias/urea built up over the winter of recycling water, taste and smell pretty bad.
A bear that's been up and around for a couple of weeks taste like a greasier, less gamie moose. Almost what I would imagine wild boar to taste like.

Fall bear from the oat fields is delightful. I wouldn't want to eat a spring bear, all run down and body in poor shape, hasn't been cleaning itself by drinking water... blah!!!
Fall bear... cut the fat off and roast it, taste like a well done roast beef. Leave the fat on and roast it, tastes like a pork roast. No ugly wild game taste from the oat fields.
Guys say in BC, do NOT eat fish bears.
Private land we can shoot any bears, so if you're looking for meat, shoot the yearlings. Four nice roasts on each one and you get $100 for the cute little hides at the fur auction.
