Default Babine lake?

What do y'al know about Babine Lake?
Anybody been?
How is the road up there? OK to pull a boat?
Where do you recommend to stay?
What is the best way to fish for the sockeye?
When is the best time to go?

I was up there about 12 years ago, I don't remember the dates but I believe it was August. They had just closed the fish gates to the mouth of the creek and the water was red from the spawning sockeyes. You can't fish in that area but there was plenty in the rest of the lake as well. We used down riggers with a flasher followed by a J hook with an orange bead. Limited out in a couple hours. Fish were still good eating. I'm sure if you made a call to Omenica Sports in Vanderhoof BC they would give you current conditions.

Tuki lodge is a decent place to stay. Call Oscars in Smithers for the most up to date info.

The road is fine. Big logging road.
Tuki Lodge has accommodations. Boat launch as well.
Most people troll a bead/hook behind a flasher.
I believe it opened Aug 1st.
Bring a fly rod because you can also fish the river at the counting fence. Fly fishing only.

Thumbs up

Not sure how the road is this year but make sure you have spare tires usually lots of sharp rocks. Babine lodge is nice you can camp out stay in a cabin that run around $100 a night but call for details. They don't have much for plates cups or anything so might want to have some with you but you are right on the lake and there's a boat launch. I fly fish the river and if the run is good the fishing is amazing. You will need very fast sinking line you can't use weights and simple fly's work just as well as the fancy ones. PM if you have any questions. I'll be on my way up from red deer Aug 19

They would be turned and pretty mushy by then. If your here in September and want Salmon then you would be best to fish for Coho.

How do they taste when they look like that? More appetizing in the silver phase.

Actually the meat is quite firm and many locals harvest these sockeye. Should be no different then the sockeye in Osoyoos lake.
