Default Places to fish close to Edmonton

Hello Everyone!

I am new here, and just getting into fishing with my kids and husband I am wondering where a good place to fish is near Edmonton. Say less than an hour away?

We were at Hasse Lake and my daughter caught a two pound trout (which made her VERY happy) but I found the lake was just to busy, and crowded with tiny perch, which we threw back.

I am not a heavy fish eater, so I would just like to keep one or two when we fish.

Oh and we do have a boat...so shore fishing is not necessary

Thanks!

Welcome to AO. I'd say wabamun if you have a boat. You can fish from shore if you walk a little. Chicakoo is another trout lake that might be less busy?

Default Wabamun

We were actually thinking Wabamun...but can you eat the fish in the lake? I may sound clueless (well actually I pretty much am about this LOL). But since the oil spill is the fish still good?

Well the oil spill did have both positive and obvious negative effects. First off always check your regs, wabamun is strictly catch and release and has been since the spill in 2005. However due to this there are plenty of trophy sized pike in those waters. If you want keepers I'm sure there will be some input. When I want to catch dinner I'll drive 1 1/2 hours to buck lake. It's never a guarantee but hey that's fishing right?

Wab is completely catch and release. For local trout lakes you can visit my lakes page here...

Oh! Buck Lake! That's why it sounded so familiar. I fished there as a kid with my parents in July. We woke up the next morning to snow! LOL!

Might have to venture out there for old times sake.

At Wabamun my friend and I caught and released 15 or so Jackfish in a 3 hour time frame, that was about two weeks ago. The boat launch in Wabamun is quite nice as well

Welcome to the forum as well, have fun here.
