Default Eskimo Augers?

I recently received a used Eskimo Auger, however the toggle on/off switch is broken. It is currently is running. My question to all the mechanics out there is, is there a chance the switch will turn off and I won't be able to start it again?

since it is electrical i suppose it could happen, if it is like mine with the steel toggle switch, just replace it with a hardware version

On most small engines the on/off switch just grounds the coil.
So the switch has two wires, one to the coil and one to the ground. When the switch is 'off' (closed in this case) the wire from the coil is grounded using the other wire in the switch, the coil cant fire the plug. When it is 'On' (open) the wire from the coil is not grounded by the wire in the switch. Yours is always 'On' (open) regardless what is says on the front and the coil is not going to be able to ground itself without the switch working or you shorting it. So in short it will keep working.

I was curious though, once you have it running how are you getting it to stop?

Good times!
I would invest in that switch soon, it hurts when you are the ground.
I would get the original part or it will most likely be labeled backwards.

there is a big price difference between the jiffy and the eskimo stingray. I've read about a few probs with jiffy, but not much about eskimo. seems most people like the eskimo.

I'm looking to buy one right now.

I bought a Stingray last year. 3rd time out on the ice the throttle cable snapped (it was covered under warranty). I was somewhat p.o'd about it at the time, but it has ran like a dream ever since.

I've got an Eskimo Auger. The Mako 1.8 HP w/10" blade. It cuts ice as fast as my buddy's 3hp 8" Jiffy; (Eskimo has higher auger rpm). It always starts easy; weighs 10 pounds less than a jiffy, has a longer 42" auger and was $150 cheaper. I'd spend the 20 bucks and never look back.

Got her fixed up this afternoon, took her to the lake and cut 2 holes no problem, I could hear one of those jiffy sputering and popping in the back ground, then it would stall out mid way through the hole.

Well guys and gals, I've had several different augers, the Jiffy Stealth rules IMO. I guess the thieves think so as well, this is my third. My cousin even had his stollen in SP out of his rafters, but they left the box and he didn't notice for a while (late spring BE).

If you want a cheepo, buy one, if you think you can defend the property, buy a Stealth.

X2 what IZUMI said on the first question.
