Default Cow Lake

Hey...I have a buddy who wants to try Cow Lake near Rockey Mountain House this weekend. Neither of us have ever been there, someone told him it's good for solid pike action so we figured why not.

Has anyone fished Cow recently. I'm not looking for honey holes, just any info that may point me in the right direction (can I drive on....is there tons of snow out there...not worth my time/fuel...ect)

Thanks everyone! I'll make sure to post pics after the trip if we're successful!

Likely wont be able to drive on with all thew snow in the area....its a big bog of a lake....literally.

There are some pike in there, rare to find a perch and some even more rare brood stock rainbows.

I would go there ready to hammer some pike. A day outside on a road trip is never a waste of time and fuel!

Thanks for the info! It is very much appreciated!

I see online that there is a campground at the lake, my plan is to find a boat launch and walk on from there!

There is an unmarked boat launch on the very north end of the lake. The shores are lined with several meters of floating bog. The best luck buddies and I have had have been fishing right along this bog, or about 50 - 100 ft out from that along the weed bed.

With that being said, collectively we've only pulled one from the ice.

As mentioned plenty of pike there. Our largest is around 10lbs, but I've 'heard' 20lbs exist there. Never seen/caught a perch, but plenty of reports of them there, and we've landed some nice rainbows, largest being a touch over 5lbs.

GL and tight lines!

Cheers

just wanted to thank WAGS and Lefty Canuck for the info! Had a good day at Cow yesterday! Weather was great for ice fishing, iced a couple pike, got some fresh air, and was far away from the city!
