Default Where are all the geese??

Are there no geese in the Calgary area this year, or am I just not looking in the right places?

I have burnt thru many tanks of gas, and have been puting the k's on every weekend since the begining of September but have yet to find an area with a lot of geese. Up until now, i have mainly been concentrating on ducks, and have done "OK" (about 20 ducks in 4 morning shoots) but havnt found or seen any area with a huge number of ducks, and have seen VERY FEW geese. I am trying to get into goose hunting now but where the heck do I go? I have been concentrating my search south east and east of Calgary (MD of Foothills, a bit into Vulcan and now as far east as Bassano).

I have definetely noticed that there is not a lot of water around these areas (water on the map/gps does not equal water on land, deadhorse lake for example... wtf!). No idea how these areas usually look as this is my first year going after waterfowl here... is it THAT much dryer this year than others? Is this why there are no geese?

Last year i remember seeing hundreds of geese a day on my drive home from work flying west near Barlow Trail... this year, nothing.

Did i pick the wrong year to get into this? Is it too early in the year or too warm and there are no migrating geese yet? or am I just not looking in the right places?

Anyways, it would be great to hear any advice, wisdom, or other personal experiences with ducks/geese around Calgary.

Default No Geese

There are definitely not the numbers that there usually are

in the calgary area .. Everything is a bit late, they may show up .

You may have to head 1 1/2 hrs north and east , little more water up there .

With the weather being so warm, ducks and geese really haven't been migrating as of yet...you'll be seeing more as the weather cools down and they head south.

I noticed, this Spring, that there were hardly any nesting on Innis Lake, west of Olds. Usually, the place and the surrounding fields are overrun with them.

They're in Peace River. Good things will come to those who wait.
