Default Live well

Bought a used boat and the live well pump was not working, it would leak like a sive. I suspect it was put away last winter with some water hanging around and the pump froze, same with the bilge pump

Replaced them both but still am not getting water to the live well. The pump is working no leaks but no water getting up stream to the live well. Maybe a blockage, I have filled it manually and it drained ok.

Thoughts?

it takes awhile for the water to come thru leave the pump run for a while and open up the outlet in the tank.

Default Maybe airloc

On the way to the live well . Take the hose off pump
Blow some compressor air back to the pump .
If there is a shut off in the well make sure it's open .

I know this might be stupid - and obvious - but I will say it anyways - there is a twist turn off at the fill nozzle right into the live well - hopefully it's twisted to the open position.

On my Lund you just twist the nozzle itself - which wasn't obvious to me (lol) when the pump was running and nothing was happening until I started fiddling with it.

I have never claimed to be the sharpest stick out there !!!

Sad to say the same thing happened to me thought there was a problem with my 1 live well for a year till I finally read the manual and opened the last valve at the live well. I felt shame.

i have also seen airlock in the pump. If you put your boat into reverse when the livewell pump is running it will force water into the pump and may solve airlock.

I originally thought air lock but I did replace the pump.

Also hooked up the hose and still no water to the live well. The drawing in my owners manual does not show any shut off valve at the tank or anywhere near the pump. Also tried EZM advise and messed with the screw in tower type plug still no good.

I am going to have to hook up a compressor to the line from the tank to the pump and see if there is an obstruction, only thing left I can think of .

The replacement pump I bought (Johnson) claims it will not airlock. lol

Valve or back flow preventer ??? Like others have said, a valve needs to be opened. Is there a timer in the circut? maybe this needs to run for a while before actualy running. Some have timers in the circuts.

DUM DUM DUM DUM

While the owners manual does not show any valve I found the bugger

And you would think with all the years of experience we seniors are supposed to have I would have figured this one out.

Oh well

Thanks for the help. Without the advise I never would have looked for a shut off valve.
