Default After Years Of Research Big Walleye Jackpot!!

-- after reading all fishing reports and reviewing Alberta government stocking and size reports ... I discovered

-- there is one reservoir in southern alberta that will produce large walleye and I think ... the next provincial record

-- everyone was bottom bouncing and I hate bottom bouncing , did it the old fashion way ... jig and minnow ...

-- all walleye were between 4 to 7 lbs ... between the walleye bite ... lots of pike ... between 3 to 7 pounds

-- out fished by the wife .... again ... she caught the biggest (7 lb) and the most

-- the biggest walleye was named "Marty Feldman" ... when you see the picture you will know why ... for those old enough to remember "Marty Feldman"

Congrats to wife for kicking your butt. Mine does the same to me all the time.

Glad you got into them!! There are many lakes throug out Alberta that have potential to produce a record, but you need to be getting into alot bigger than 7lbs consistantly to know that those class of fish are present!

-- live here in Red Deer .... used to live in Ralston till grade three ... till my parents moved us to Red Deer

-- fished all the mentioned reservoirs with my grandpa ... when they didn't have names ... or different names ...

-- so I will be coming back .... or should I say coming home ... thanks Grandpa

Default Any reservoir

The truth be known , any res. in the south , that was collapsed
( we know as many PC things were pure BS ) has that quality
Of fish in it .
The bad news for anglers is that the Dippers have not purged
The SSRD of the anti fish and fry crowd .....so more water will be
Closed ... The good news if your a poacher is that it has become
A social network . Dipper mentalities allow for justified poaching .

As has been stated...." SHOW ME THE PICS "

Would the pike get smaller? It seems this year i only saw one pike over single digits. I remember a few years ago at wabby there would be some days where we got multiple pike over 10 pounds. Just my thoughts.

Here is a link that helped me with my lack of computer skills and posting pictures on the forum. Hope it will help you too...hint hint

Beauty fish, however if you don't mind me asking.. how deep were you jigging?

You were obviously getting into fish, but maybe a little to deep if the eye balls are popping out of there heads like that.

Default I'm starting to think

We have been played. By the OP

Fish weights are open to speculation and perspective like a lot of things that are deemed successes by size ., Alberta has a kind of laissez faire

Attitude about accurate fish weights . We are currently enjoying several

Provincial records . It's 7 , not seven ,meh ,still a nice fish ....

Maybe it has to do with strong "year classes" and the like. I thought our favorite big pike lake was getting pretty dead to same, while the walleye we caught as "by catch" were bigger every year for several years. Then, this August, we caught multiple pike in the 93-109 cm range (so a few in the 10-20 lb. range), and the usual dozens of walleye were smaller ...? Who knows.

Forgive me but I am confused about your post, you are stating in your original post that after years of research you found the big Walleye jackpot in a southern Alberta reservoir, yet the biggest fish caught from your outing was 7lb. However you fish the Red deer river regularly and get Walleye in the 13lb range?

Am I missing something here...please help me someone...

Yes that is exactly what I am saying ... bigger walleye in the Red Deer River

... but at Lake Newell you can have tags to be able to keep the walleye for the provincial record ....

I have it on good authority that a walleye (in Newell) someone beat the alberta record by four inches and a couple pounds ... but no walleye tag

... heading back to Newell in a week or so ... will post my results ... sorry for the confusion ....

Since what I had mentioned earlier seemed to be largely ignored, how deep are you jigging for these fish? If there eyes are bulging out of there heads by the time you get them to the boat, you are fishing way to deep, regardless of if you are catching fish or not.

This one's not too shabby either. Not from Newell or Red Deer River.

Thanks :-). Was quite a nice surprise because of how softly it hit.

Just goes to show there's still some real hogs out there.

sorry "wes g" ... been busy golfing/working ...

we were fishing on a ledge that went from 19 to 29 ... all strikes were at the start of the drop ....

also we always had at least 3 to 4 boats all day ... within a 100 yard radius ... fishing around us also .... that were closer and closer as the day went on ...

not our first rodeo fishing walleye ...all the other walleye did not have the "eyes" that this one had .... and of course this fish was tagged ... only after 30 minutes of trying to revive him or her ....

all other walleyes went back as if nothing had happened ... congratulations at least you have face book ... since you have seen all of the pictures and the stories that go along with the great time we had at Newell

tried "photo bucket" what a hassle ... since you know all about facebook . you know how simple it is to post pictures ... click .. click ... open and done

there's a reason that there is more text than pictures on this site ....
