Just attended a memorial for a friend and his wife …. from back in our days in Grande Cache when it really was a “new town”. Back then there were no “restrictions” of any kind in accessing as far up any stream one could get. Fishing was good.

If you are on Facebook there is a Grande Cache Memories page where a lot of stuff from the early days is shared, along with all periods of the towns history, the library is also scanning pieces from their newspaper archives and makes posts every so often. I always figured Grande Cache as Banff without the tourists, a beautiful place, wouldn't mind living there.

I was in Grande Cache yesterday. I would rather spend time around GC than Banff any day.

I would assume it is pretty quiet there...if one interviews with the Feds regarding a pen job, one of the first questions they ask is “will you go to GC?” Hardest prison to find applicants for by far.

I feel bad for not attending the same memorial. We worked together many years ago.

I was Principal of the Jr-Sr High School 1973-1977. Also elected to the New Town Board of Administrators.

It's beautiful country, if your boss doesn't send you there with a wannabe truck.

That's my one memory of GC, coming down that hill with a ten ton load of road tar on a M2 Freightliner with an automatic transmission and no Jake Brake.

Good thing there was no one on the bridge at the bottom. I took the last corner at 70 mph with all six brakes smokin, weren't no way I could have stopped if the bridge had been blocked.

It kinda spoiled my enjoyment of that pretty little town.

My Grandpa showed me a picture of Grande Cache the first time he was there, it was just 1 cabin. That would have been in the mid to late 40’s

My Dad built and owned Elkhorn manor in the 80s. The mine closing, and 22% interest rates walked our family right into bankruptcy in the late 80s. Tough pill, but many lived it.
