Default Meat Rabbits

Anyone know of anyone raising for meat ?
I've been looking around , as I raised them before.

Looking for a Flemish buck and 2 California or New Zealand Does.

Found some, but the people seem to think they lay golden eggs @ $100.00 for a young one ! Not going to pay that for any Rabbit !
When I raised them before, I paid/sold for $20.00 !

Shoot me a PM if you do not want to post....

Oh ya, closer to Westlock the better.

Thanks !

that's not a bad price

but i'm also raising a few right now but they're spoken for, i should be getting more later this year i think (depending on how busy work is) i'll let you know if i do btw i just throw them in with the chickens so price is dependent on how much grain they eat.

There should be lots available now that Easter is done. You may even be able to get some Easter eggs and hatch your own. Stay away from the chocolate eggs as they will melt in an incubator.

Hope this helps.

Reason I would like close is shipping/pick up.

fish - are you not feeding Alfalfa (Rabbit) pellets ? Pure grain diet isn't enough for them.

no, pellets are expensive (well not really but they cost more than free) so i just let them go in the pen that i seed with alfalfa for the chickens and they eat that and some hay that i throw in there. the problem is because they're in the same pen as the chickens they love the chicken feed so they get into it, i think it's because it has all the vitamins and minerals mixed in. i also give them veggie scraps from a local restaurant that they can fight the chickens for.

the only thing that costs me money is the grain and mixings for the chickens the rest is donated or of my own efforts.

I know of one, but he is probably too far from you. Plus I'm pretty sure his rabbits are Hientz 57. They run free in his yard.

But the price is reasonable, last time I talked to him, (about 6 years ago) he charged $5.00 per rabbit. I'm not sure how he catches them for you though, the only method I could imagine would be a rifle, they are free ranging.

Is Meander River too far?

I know if anyone needs a place to get rid of a few rabbits, I wouldnt mind having them run around my farm yard.

If you would have bought some of those $100 rabbits a decade ago, you could have been swimming in them by now.

Question Southern rabbits?

Anyone raising or breeding meat rabbits south of Calgary? I’m thinking of getting into it on a trial this coming season.

Thanks

There used to be a dude once who lived in the edge of Calgary, he had free ranging bunnies all over his place. It was 20 bucks a rabbit, shoot your own with whatever you wanted (firearms laws didn’t mean much to him), apparently the Italians loved to go out and get their own bunnies. He had pallets for them to hide under and even though it was crawling with coyotes the bunnies seemed to survive and thrive. I’d think that combining a rabbit Warren with a .223 would net a lot of coyotes as well as bunnies.

Located on what was the first YYC ski hill (lift ticket buck a day)before Paskapoo/COP/etc. City shut the bunny op down years ago.

Province purchased the land from senior Wales for what is now an interchange of the Stony Trail South.

Creeky....

PS: rabbit guy = Nigel Wales.

Canmore's been 'euthanizing' feral rabbits for quite a few years now. The average cost per rabbit caught works out to be just over $250.00 per bunny. Residents aren't permitted to kill them - only the Town contracted 'pest removal' guy.

They gave up on the catch, sterilize and release?

Only on AO can an 11 year old thread about rabbits can get bumped and the conversation carries on without missing a beat. What a community.

Nope this was a different guy in a different location. Must have been two bunny farmers.
