Wondering what we’re looking at for snow depth on Newell, or we talking skating rink. I am walking on and need to know how much Wheaties I need to eat before I go.
Thanks.

I was on the northern half on Sunday and ut was basically glare ice where we were. My buddy is out on the southern half right now and said it is drifting around him. Lots of snow to walk on.
Be careful if you are heading onto the main part of the lake. The ice wasnt nearly as thick as the bays and there was a giant pressure ridge running the entire length of the lake from north to south basically down the middle.

You can even see the pressure ridges on the Satellite pics. Pretty crazy.

I was out on Jackfish bay a few weeks ago and you can hear the ice breaking, sounds like a train running up the lake, between the ridges forming and the gas its quite interesting, great cure for constipation especially when the bay ice is bobbing up and down under you.

so when you guys are talking about a pressure ridge.....is it a RIDGE, or is it a crack with open water, at this point? I'm not sure about Newell, but back home on Lake Winnipeg, pressure ridges are among the best spots to fish in winter. It kind of acts as a structure of sorts, for fish to gather. I'm definitely very curious to see, but also don't want to get too close if it's in fact a big crack with open water that could separate at any moment...

Driving over a pressure ridge is what sends most trucks to Davey Jones locker

This is an ice ridge!! We went to Keeley in Feb. 2017 and came across this obstacle. It ran for 10 miles, east to west, shore to shore, with just enough room to get around it on the west shore.

There usually seems to be something that runs from the islands north of the launch to down south in the same general area every year.
I had to jump over this nice little man eater all season in2016. Some days it was wider than others but always open enough to go for a swim.
Then the next year it was this but closer to shore.

I was out there 2 days ago and guys are driving all over the lake in trucks. There was around 2 feet of ice where I was fishing. Permanent shacks are filling up every one of the big bays. Lots of people out there enjoying the lake.

Tons of ice and not much snow pack so trucks are everywhere. Good times right now!
