First Sturgeon of the year, its a TANK!!!
I am still in shock, can't believe I got such a beast on such a windy, crappy day. It was pretty slow for the first 2 hours, not even a nibble. The wind was so strong I decided to bait up my hook one last time and then I was going home....five minutes later I felt my weight bouncing upstream, I pulled back on my rod and felt this tank on the other end. It took me about 10 minutes to get her in and I was only cast 30 yards from shore. It was too big to remove from the water so I just gently pulled it up into a couple inches of water to remove the barbless hook and snap a few quick photos.
It weighed at least 80 lbs, and was 68" long without a pinched tail. I have lifted a million boxes of vinyl siding which weigh about 90 lbs and this fish was just about as heavy, no word of a lie. I never thought to get a girth measurement, I was far too excited and I wanted to get it back more than anything. I was alone so my self-timed photo will have to do
Good luck this season!!

Congrats Sniper. That fish is a beauty! Only took you 10 min. to land? it must have been taking it easy on you. Sounds like another good year for Sturgeon on the NSR.
Who knows, maybe I'll finally hook one.

Beauty Fish ,
As for the weight.
This will give you a more accurate weight chart, I have caught a few around that size and nowhere near 80 lbs, biggest was 62 Lbs ( on this SRD chart )
http://mywildalberta.com/Fishing/Saf...Practices.aspx
and here is the weight chart
Kinda jealous, I wish I had a sturgeon already , but have not put the time in !
Congrats man !
BTW, Good thing you blurred the backround, because that place is loaded with garbage and idiots already ! to easy to access and no respect !

Thanks guys! And you're right CBA, I just put 80 pounds of weights onto my benchpress that I never use and it was a bit heavier, by about 10 pounds or so . I would still say this fish was right around 70 lbs. My middle finger up by his gills is 4" long if that helps judge girth lol! Doesn't really make a difference to me, it's my biggest fish by approx. 60 pounds so i'm happy either way
Keep trying Waterninja, if you have bait on the river floor for long enough ones gotta swim by eventually!

Lol, my lame attempt to hide this well known location . Apparently it wasn't blurred well enough, my buddy who I sent the pic to just got a text about a sturgeon being caught at location X and they were right on the money, he just texted me and asked if I posted it on AO ...plus CBA could tell right away.

Lol yea hes just ok.i pound em on the ssr and the bow and the best fishery in AB for sturgion, and out of the nsr sir this is a pig.so I'm not sure what you've been so consistent with if this is just decent to you but if it is please by all means share your secret fairy tail that we all dream about with some AB picks.but no need to give away the location because you can follow suite like the Op has and erased the back ground.WOW that a tank of a fish here guys for the nsr.
Congrats and it looks like your running a preatty good bottom end set up.
