Default any mechanics?

I have a problem with my 1990 gmc sierra, the low beams will work break lights and signals work, but high beams driving lights and tailights do not, also instead of lights turning on by the switch located on the dash they turn on with the key. i can not toggle between highbeams or low beams with my stick on the colum either, any help would be appreciated.

Not a mechanic, but sounds to me like you need a new headlight switch. And the "low beams" you speak of would most likely be your day time running lights, as all vehicles sold in canada after 1989 require them.

i have lights below my headlights that are my daytime driving lights that dont work, my low beams come on with my key, im pretty confused as all this just happened randomly. Is there a fuse box under the hoods in this year of truck?

Could be a fuse, but I still think most likely the headlight switch. Are the lights below your headlights factory or aftermarket? Try applying your parking brake and see if your "low beams" go off. If they do go off then they are your day time running lights

I thought about the dlr module, but don't think that would affect the headlight operation. The module in my dodge went about 6 years ago, and I've never bothered to replace it, and everything else still operates fine

x3 on the headlight switch or at least the wiring behind it. pull it out and i wouldnt be surprised if you found corroded wires back there or a burnt up connector. Some older vehicles had issues with those slightly melting.
