No they aren't. They lost two wars. At the beginning of the last war they have had Russian backing and help. After what they have done to Europe everything else looks like a snowball fight.

it came down to quanitity over quality, if Germany had a better leader, their equipment was for the most part superior, just not as much manufacturing as the US, from machine guns, tanks, jets, rockets, things could of been very different with a few different choices

Matt I do not want to argue. When we win wars, it is thanks to our brave troops?

.....huh?...they fought for their country to the death knowing their own government was leading them to doom.....hows that for some brave soldierin'???

They were exceptional soldiers...it's not the fault of the grunt in the field, when a country is driven to ruin by lunatic politicians.

My last post in the derail. Pre-WWI Chancellor Otto Von Bismarck stated that at all times Germany should avoid a war on two fronts, ie: with France and Russia at the same time, as it would be unwinnable. Kaiser Wilhelm II ignored him and it was a major reason for the defeat there. Hitler did the same thing, only more so. He had Italy as well. I suspect there would've been a very different outcome had Germany been able to focus her entire resources on one front.

This is my opinion as an amateur military history buff anyway.

You guys kill me.

Germany has ALREADY WON the Economic war of Europe. Bet they wish they had not, as they have to suck a bunch of sun bathed welfare pigs out of the financial muck to maintain the EEC.

Worst part is that if they dare to raise interest rates so that Germany gets a reasonable return on all that EEC bailout money for Greece, Italy, Spain, etc, they will never get their money back.

All the economic power under the sun is little solace to a Country having to cut back, work harder, and pay more taxes, while some Mediterranean crook holds his hand out for more.

This will all blow over. And our government doesn't want to get into it because you just KNOW the Americans have been bugging us for likely 50 years. It would just be embarassing to have to face the fact publicly.

You are dead wrong.
You should consider what actually cost them the war instead of looking at the end state only.
German soldiers performed well and they still do.

This is hearsay and slobbering drunk bar talk from Bonnyville Alberta from several years ago.

Apparently, at the Cold Lake Maple Flag exercise the German
Luftwaffe using the inferior Russian Mig 29 (after the wall came down) were able to penetrate the envelopes of USAF F-15's and shoot them down ( so to speak).

Shneaky little devils are they not?

No army has been successful in fighting in Russia.

I agree that had Hitler kept to one front at a time, we would be on Mars by now and spatzle would be everyone's national dish.

Mainly naval and not on proper Russian soil.

Napoleon and the Germans failed to conquer Russia proper.

Mainly because none of them gave much thought to General Winter. Although Hitler did come damn close.

Last time I have heard about them was posting in pictures with skulls dug out from an Afgani graves. Their early success was advantage of technology and number of troops. When they were outnumbered and technology sunk in mud they were not so good. Show me another army surrendering over 90000 troops. Napoleon troops withdraw with big loses but did not surrender. Do not tell me Germans did not want this loses, only less then 5000 ever returned.

In all the war games that are played by the NATO countries there are two forces which never lose. They are the Canadians and the Germans. To say the Germans were not good soldiers is based on anger not on truth. The fact that Canadian soldiers where the ones who actually beat the Germans would be more correct and to the point. The fact that the Germans where a very effective fighting force, adds honor to our troops not the other way around.

I am really glad to see the Germans mad at the USA for spying. The USA think they can treat the other country's like a ugly step child and do whatever they please. Hopefully the other country's that were spied are mad also.
