Question BB guns in town

We have a little bit of a problem with crows raiding bird feeders. Is it legal for me to shoot them with a BB gun ( it shoots under 500 fps ).
We also live on the edge of a small field so the BB will not be hitting people houses etc.

Caught some magpies in 120 connibears the other for fun. Baited the area while BBQing. Hour later had a few coming in, put the trap out with scrap meat. Probably a bit more neighbor friendly.

Check with the city, but you will likely find a bylaw against discharging air rifles within city limits.

You'll have allot more luck with a magpie trap. The city of Calgary will even send you instructions on how to build one, if you don't live in Calgary google magpie trap and you'll find them. Couple tips are pre-bait the area for a couple of days, then place the trap in that area with food in the trap... best bait is raw meat, they won't eat veggies.... Only move the trap after dark... if you move it in daylight and they see you they will avoid the trap. The trap will only work in one area for a while then you will need to move it. Good luck.

Another tip, for euthanizing the "contents" of your trap...dont spill any blood in the trap. You wont be able to force a magpie in the trap after. We used to take the trap, wrap it in a tarp, then run a hose from a truck exhaust into it and let the truck idle for 20 to 30 mins. Some guys toss the trap in a slough. Both work well.

If a tree falls in an empty forest does anyone hear it?
In other words... If you shoot and tell or someone see's and tells expect trouble, if you shoot and shut up it's no worries!

If you are within the Calgary city limits, shooting BB's is not legal, if you are outside Calgary limits you would have to check with the county you are in to see if they have any bylaws about it.

This should save you calling them, straight from the Calgary Streets Bylaw:
9. (1) No person shall discharge a firearm, pellet gun, B.B. gun or a gas powered gun within the City.

I get your drift😉. I do have some traps so I'll give that a shot too.
