Default email address change

I have been with telus for what seems like eons. Their pricing is getting ridiculous and I would like to have a look around. My problem is that I have a @telus.net email address. If I switch my internet will I loose the email address? Bear in mind Google now runs the telus email accounts. Does anyone know by chance?

Everyone's prices are crazy...

Brand loyalty is valuable to the ISP's though, so call Telus and speak to a CSR about customer retainment pricing options.

Tell them you want a better deal, or you'll switch...

As far as the email goes, I'd rather have a Gmail or Hotmail account than one thru my ISP. You may lose it if you switch, not sure though.

Default Telus

Call Telus Customer Service and when you get them on the phone ask to speak to the Loyalty Department.
I have had success in the past dealing with them and twice in the last 2 years I have had my charges reduced while receiving additional services. In each case it did require me agreeing to a 2 year term with my rate guaranteed and frozen for the 2 year term but I have been satisfied with their service, just not the rate increases when they show up and wasn't eager to leave or like you deal with the changing of an email address.

Good Luck,
Phil

Even though Google now runs the telus email you would still lose your email account if you dropped the internet. You can pay Telus $7/month to keep it if you wanted though.

It's definitely worth trying to get your charges reduced. If you have a Telus or Koodo cell phone plan let them know that too. I pay $111.93 for the following with Telus on a 2 year plan:

As sad as it is, you have to call and complain. The standard business practice of these large companies is to offer you a promotion and then when the promotion expires leave you to pay the inflated rate. They have no qualms about abusing loyal customers and will never offer them a discount.

Go a look up the competitors best deals as well as your companies current promotion and don't get off the phone until you have the promotional rate. They will offer you a small discount first, don't take it, wait to speak to the next customer service agent and tell them you want the current promotional rate and that you've been a loyal customer.

It's a scummy business practice, based on assuming people won't pay attention and will just accept the abuse - these companies know you have limited options. I just accept at this point that every two years or so I'll be calling to get my rate reduced.

I had the same issue as you and wanted to keep my telusplanet email. The only way I could do it was to agree to pay telus $7.35 per month for the email address as a "home service."

I know many would not pay for it, but it was important that I retain the address.

I have been using an e-mail forwarding service for many years. I have the paid version that hosts the account on top of having forwarding ability.

It's been good in that I can switch providers without causing an interruption to my e-mail delivery.

Unfortunately, this information won't help you keep your existing email address now...

Feel you pain changed after 15 years with cciwireless because we got finer optics. That was worse than loosing your wallet. Two years later and still finding places I have to change my email address.
