I've been trying to find info on fish consumption guidelines for the battle river downstream of the Forestburg resiviour.
I remember years ago there were heavy mercury levels but have not seen anything recent.
I fish the battle a lot....i have some killer honey holes and regularly catch descent sized walleye.... but I've never kept anything to eat. Now the kids are enjoying catching fish and are asking to bring some home to eat sometimes.
Honestly not sure I'd even want to eat any out of there but some info would be nice.
Tell me where your honey holes are, and I’ll tell you if those spots are ok mercury-wise.
I’ve always been under the impression the battle was ok for mercury.
I’ve been eating fish out of there for many years.

I'm not worried myself....but the girlfriend is a bit paranoid and kids are bit different than adults as far as what's an acceptable amount of whatever.. ..
Lol their biggest worry is that the cows poop in the water and the fish swim in it.
Looking at the waterbody advisories it does not mention the Battle river. It says for water bodies not mentioned there is no advisory.
You can call Alberta Health and ask to be sure. 780 427 4518

haha don't tell them those same fish will eat some of that cow poop....
When I lived in Forestburg I spent a summer helping to cut the grass around the battle river power plant. Guys down there told me of 3 eyed fish downstream from the cooling towers etc... I never caught anything down there so I don't know. Haven't thought about that place in years but I do recall my time in Forestburg fondly. Great little town.

I fish the Battle a lot around the Hardisty area. Usually will keep a fall walleye or two, if they are legal size. Great eating. Nothing to worry about if you don't over do it. Cool fall water has them nice and firm.
