Default Good RV Battery

Im looking to replace my 12V Trailer battery for camping. Any suggestions? I was debating going to two 6 volts but it's expensive.

We usually camp without power.

Two 6v golf cart batteries will provide far more charge cycles than a deep cycle without degradation than a rv battery (200 plus for golf cart and 50 for rv) and can be drawn down farther without damage than a 12v. It's an investment...

Yup, go with the costco 6 volt. I have 4 of them with a 150 watt solar panel.

Hey curtz, I'd like to see a schematic of how to wire 4 - 6 volt batteries to produce a 12 volt supply to the RV. Any chance you could supply?

I also use 4 golf cart batteries but 400 watts of solar. I keep this diagram to make sure I wire it right each year. I made custom cables with welding cable and soldered terminals... 3000 watt inverter with the shore power plugged in directly. No switch or fancy wiring and I get to use my coffee maker and microwave and have all my 110v outlets live. Easy peasy.

What do the Costco 6 voly golf cart batteries cost? Maybe I'll just run two of them then in series for now. I'd eventually like to do a solar panel and controller.

Was at costco a couple weeks ago and 6v 208ah batteries were $148 a piece. When my 2 12v wear out, they'll be the replacements

Ah perfect I'll head there tomorrow. 105 ah 12 V from Canadian tire was around 160 I think. So may as well do that. End up with I over 416 ah.

Perfect! Thanks Jays toyz and curtz!

I'll run this same configuration (4 - 6 volts) when my 2 - 6 volts kick the bucket.

Jays; inverter runs off batteries to supply 110? How long can that last? Couple of hours?

In interested in this as well. And I was wrong with regard to the 400+ ah, the two 6v in series will still only give the 200+ ah in a 12V series setup I believe. Still more than a 12 v deep cycle.

I have 2 6V Trojans and 140watts solar.

If you are near red deer and need batteries, PM me and I can put you in touch with our family battery business. On par with Costco.

I got the biggest one Walmart sells, 250ah I believe, was $110 I think, only $10 more than the 120ah one. It's a big battery, but size wasn't an issue for me

I run my 5th wheel for 3 or 4 days when boondocking with 4 of us away from our solar array without a consideration to power usage.. I dont often use the toaster or drip coffee maker when I am Boondocking because they use more power than everything else combined x50. I bought replacement panel type led lights throughout and picked up a "kill-a-watt" power consumption deal that you plug in the 110 outlet and plug whatever into to find out power consumption. The furnace is the biggest battery drain by far for me.

I can run my 50" tv and the dvd and stereo for like 40 hours or Probably 60 minutes of microwave (though I only use it for reheating coffee). A dozen pots of drip coffee maybe

I also wired in a small pure sine wave inverter in the basement that is wired to an outlet in the master bedroom for sensitive electronics.

I only turn off my inverter when I will be away for a day or more because of the parasitic load, which I could (and will now that I am thinking about it) determine easily with my kill a watt.
