Just a little rant everyone that thinks Carhartt is great, it is actual just overpriced garbage.
I have a few Carhartt hoodies and jackets, had a few now that after a few washes they fade like crazy and the zippers just fall off in the washing machine
To me if I spend a $100 on a hoody I expect it to last.

I use carhartt overalls in my shop at home. Also find carhartt jeans last a long time.
With that being said it does seem like the quality in their overalls has gone down hill over the last 10 years. Seams just dont hold together like they used to. Could just be that I refuse to buy a bigger size and my body style is hard on seams...Probably outsourced their manufacturing or materials like many other companies that were once great.

I’ve wore nothing but Carhart jackets for 15 years. Never had a zipper fail yet. My everyday chore coat must be 5 or 6 years old, frayed around the edges but just getting good.

Only way i can get the overalls to last is by smearing shoe goo on all the seams on the stomach and chest , that way sparks dont melt the stitching away and dont fall apart , get way more life out of a pair since i started doing that , 2 pairs a year now.

Carhart pants awesome, hoodies are a mixed bag. Carhart used to make these hoodies with a brushed grey, synthetic plush interior that is the cosiest garment ever made... only problem is they fall apart and I have gone through a couple of them. Had another hoody that was great and heavyweight, but zipper had to be replaced.

Easy way to solve that problem - don't wash them

My experience is with their jeans, bib overalls and matching jackets. In over a decade I haven't had a single zipper failure. I end up simply wearing the garment out. When there are more holes than material I replace it. Yes the fabric fades overtime. Vivid colours aren't my thing when at work or in the field.

For hoodies I use HH thermal FR grey line. $350 a hoodie which is made in Canada. Lasts me a couple of years with daily use.

I've got a Carhartt jacket I got off my brother. The breast pockets were sewed on slightly unevenly which drives me nuts. Great jacket otherwise.

My jacket is 5 years old and my T-shirt’s are 3 years old, and all’s good. It is the only manufacturer I find that there sizing matches my size. Nothing worse than a T-shirt that will not stay tucked in 😳

I can't find another brand of pants/overalls that have as good pockets on the legs as carhart.
Dickies pants are good, but the left leg pocket is too wide and shallow to hold anything.
Drives me crazy.
And I feel raped every time I shell out for carhart pants or overalls.
I should try to get a maintenance job at a nudist colony.
Plumbers crack probably isn't a concern there.

Has faded but it’s in the elements daily, I’m a carpenter and it gets used daily, I even weld in it. Zipper hasn’t failed once, sleeves haven’t worn out at the cuffs yet. I go through a cheap pair of their work pants about every 6-8 months, they get worn 5-6 days (same pair) a week and all that fails on them after that time is the fabric in the crotch wears thin and I get holes. I patch them and use them for firewood or farming chores.

I’m a big fan of Carhartt, especially cause they’re union. It’s worth spending the extra buck knowing you’re getting quality and supporting a local union.

If you look at the label of the newer Carharts you will notice that they are now made in a different country... I notice they don't wear as tough as they used to either. Don't seem as thick as the older ones.

I now buy Dickies and am very happy with the fit and the longevity.

I just ordered a $800 rain set from another chain that starts with C, on sale for $500 and change. They were advertised as having a 'luxurious lining with great next-to-skin' feel.
I am always cold and miserable fishing BC, asked the sales associate if it had a nice fleece lining, got 'oh yes you bet, they are awesome!!!'
When I opened the package I found a couple pieces that look like glad bags with a little silver paint on the inside. What a joke.
I called customer service, was told they were not taking returns until after the 19th of January, real nice when I ordered this in November and they showed up in December.
Then they said to mail it in (my cost) and in 4-6 weeks they would issue a refund because they were so backlogged.
Then they said I could just drive the 6 hours and take them back for immediate refund, even offered $25 gift card lol.
I am going to Dedmonton on the 26th but of course they aren't accepting returns that day LOL!

They are all junk. They don't care.

I find their jackets don't fit me well, so never bought one. Seems they have odd fitting stuff? All their stuff is over priced, so wouldn't buy any of it anyways, as good as it looks. $800 rain suit? No such thing. I do have an old pair of bibs, maybe 25 or more years old, paid $59. ....great fit, wear them to this day, on special occasions. Contradictory, I know. They are old, but are good. Don't wash them much either. Full of Dap, paint, and PL400.

Dickies stuff is great. Love 'em.

Went into a Carhartts store in Seattle 2 weeks ago. Looked around for 20 min, left empty handed, and not because of the $$ exchange.

I really a, quite happy with my Carhart hoodies. I have a few different ones with different liners and have had years of use out of them but, yes, they do fade.

I didn't know they were union and every dollar I spend supports a union. Too bad, I will be switching brands on my next hoodie then I guess.

I seem to find that they might be using a lesser grade of cotton in recent decades, it seemed to me the stuff used to be tougher, perhaps longer fibres or such?? Then again, time also seems to be flying past more quickly

What I really hate is brands that were once iconic and were domestically manufactured have moved their production to the far east. Mexico is also a popular spot to outsource manufacturing; not as bad as China and at least its in North America.

I've become concerned with the export of our manufacturing base, it frightens me from a strategic reserve/capability perspective. I don't think its wise for a nation to lose manufacturing capacities because then they are no longer independent. In a time when China is 'rattling its sabre' economically and many nations are intentionally avoiding the use of Huawei communications gear in their telecom networks one should be erring on the side of caution about sending money to the sleeping dragon. The kicker is getting people to fork out the money for what a quality domestic product would cost, weaning them from the cheap foreign goods that weaken our economy would be quite an undertaking. I mean this from clothing and electronics right through to cordless power tools, I wish we had Canadian or USA made options for all of these.

I like Carhart jackets but man do they wear out fast. Went to Helly Hansen coats and find they last triple the time. Have Tough Duck bibs that seem to outlast the Carhart bibs by a bit so far.

I agree, but, unfortunately, the cost (and subsequently the price) of tools made in Canada or the US is prohibitive.

People love to buy "made in America" but often won't pay for "made in America" when a tool of equal performance/quality can be had at a fraction of the price.

Many things labelled as "made in America" have component parts made in other countries.

Even clothing starts out as textiles (materials) originating from overseas and often cut and shipped for "final assembly" so the label can proudly sport the red, white and blue label.

We have priced ourselves out of the global economy. Our innovations are no longer protected intellectual properties or made by specialised craftspeople.

I think the problem is expecting any hoodie to last. I go through a few every year and I expect nothing less. Pick them up as cheep as possible whenever I can.

Ya, the flaps are not really useful. It does neatly tuck into the large pocket and doesn't bother me. Sure better than one pair I had (dickes I think) that the Slim leg pocket wasn't a pocket at all. It had no stitching on the bottom. Had to stitch it myself....
