Why don't you pack a filter or life straw? Then your sure it's ok.

Default I did

I did a hunt up the blackstone river out past the gap four years ago....we did have water with us but there were a couple situations where we ran out while hiking that we did drink some from the streams....we had no issues at the time.

I was just out that way last week for a couple days. Drank from the Blackstone and several tributaries with only refreshing results.

There's some light and cheap filter options such as the sawyer squeeze or MSR Trailshot. I have a lifestraw but am not a fan of it.

Fan of the steripen myself, for the weight and cost I wouldn't take the chance of getting sick while backpacking.

x2 for the SteriPen. Yes they're a bit pricey but they're easy and effective.

Pack a Lifestraw or at least some Aquatabs, just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the input guys. I will be boiling my water at camp but plan on getting back away so was just wondering what you all thought.
For the guys that hunt out that way how did you do?

I've drank water in the mountains my whole life and never had an issue. As long as it is flowing and it is cold coming off a mountain I drink it straight. Never an issue
