Default Anyone used Leupold Rifleman Veretical Split rings

To save weight, I was thinking of using Leupolds aluminum Vertical split rings on a Piccatiny rail. Has anyone used them?

Vertical split rings are a pain to install, don't look real good when mounted and that bump sticking up has no useful advantage. I only ever used one set of Warnes and sold them, replaced with regular rings.

Thanks.

What is the alternative for a ring that goes on a Piccatiny rail to keep the weight down? Leupold QRW are awesome but heavy (6 oz for the pair).

Ditch the rail and put on a set of light weight one piece tally's if weight is the biggest concern. If you want quick removal and ability to add other sites got to a two piece weaver base and then lots of light easy to remove bases are available, and they can be used with the rail as well if you want to. ATRS in Calgary makes a quality light weight pictanny fitted ring. (They make 1" and 30 mm)

Default Rings

Burris Z ring might be an option.

Vertically split rings are also known to cause tracking issues.

You are probably not dialing lots but something else to consider.

Depending on the rifle and scope, I would be using Talley one piece.

I love the Talley one piece and use them on 95% of my rifles. On this one, I want to use a Piccatiny style rail with 20 MOA and hence the rings.

If you want to be able to take the scope off and put it back on without any adjustments I would get a Near 20 moa rail and Alpha mount.
