Who is Fall Bear Hunting?

There didn’t seem to be as many people Spring bear hunting this year due to COVID. That got me wondering about the Fall Hunt. How many of you fellas plan on going on a Fall bear hunt?

I'm going to give it a go, got a nice spring bear. So will try and fill my supplemental tag.

Tag will be in my pocket! Passed on a few small bears this spring but there'll be no saving grace for them this fall.

Some year I will run a bait in the fall, would like to see how big they get that time of year. Seen a very fat bear last fall.

What's the go to fall bait? I've got a couple of wild blueberry patches that I keep an eye on. Seems like lots of competition for food in the early fall compared to the early Spring.

I have a tag. It will have to be a bear that's worth the work though. Darned things have the worst ground shrinkage of all!!!

Total waste of time in my experience.

I posted a thread about it a number of years ago and got told that much too. But of course I need to learn things for myself and they were right, it's pretty much a waste of time.

Sites that we would have 12 to 15 bears at in the spring would see 1 or 2 bears come in every 2 or 3 days with no regularity. And we run really good baits with a lot of variety.

I think (for the most part) bears would rather not eat at a bait and be around humans if there's other good food sources. Which is why as soon as the dandelions and clover are up in the spring, they're gone.

I'm thinking about it. Didn't connect in the spring and didn't get anything for draws so just might give it a go to scratch the itch for early season hunting

Had good adventures and connected in the spring.

Deciding if I had my fill or if the amount of fun I had this spring will lead to a supplemental tag in my pocket during our moose hunt.

Underrated hunts IMO.

I didn't shoot one in the spring so I still have my tag. If I see a bear I might be tempted to pull the trigger.

Actually there was a record number of black bear tags sold this spring, there was a lot of bears killed this spring.

As of mid-June:
Bear tags sold – 2019 was 4744, 2020 is 6018

Supp licenses sold – 2019 was 916, 2020 is 1311

I suspect some of this might have to do with the ATV ban/black bear hunt exemption. But good to see regardless

I really want to drop a fat blackie this fall. I am hoping to render the lard out of it. I won’t specifically target bears this fall but if the oat fields I hunt hold a big one, he’s coming home with me.

Same here, my girlfriend and I both got bears in the spring. Hers had enough fat remaining to get 2l of oil off of it. I am looking to do the same this fall with my second tag.

Always have a bear tag in my pocket but have only pulled the trigger to finish off one for a friend that was dangerously close after he shot it.
Still looking for the one worth ending the elk/moose hunt and this year have some intel on a big colour phase that sounds like he’ll be just the one I’d want.
Every time I think of bear hunting I think of Steven Rinella doing backcountry fondue with his bear fat and meat lol. Makes my stomach grumble wanting to try it every time

I agree with tag in pocket never see any bears. Couple years back my partner wanted bear to render fat. I had no tag, he never saw one bear, I was seeing two ever day. I changed my name to "Eddy Two Bears"

That’s a good amount. Have you cooked anything in it yet?

Man I wish the Regs were: keep the meat OR the hide. I’d shoot more bears...

This will be my 31st year going after bear.
I don't care much anymore about killing one but the meat is my favorite.

In my trapping circle that didn’t translate into more beaver Carcasses sold.

Always carry a black bear tag in the fall when hunting moose and elk, filled more than a few with great bears gorging in the wild blue berry patches in 2 or 3 year old clear cuts

I didn’t say a “record” number of bears killed.... I said lots of bears killed, but a “record” number of tags and licenses sold.

Lots of folks out of work this spring and things ground to a halt with Covid translated to more time for many. Money was tight so I am guessing buying beavers wasn’t the cheapest or most economical way to get bait for bears, just a guess though.
