Anyone else notice the irony? By perpetuating the stereotypes of 'Newfies', some are perpetuating the sterotypes of Westerners.........interesting.

Respect?

Do these workers not pay taxes?

Does the Alberta economy not depend almost entirely upon the oil industry?

Does the oil industry not depend on employees to operate?

If there were enough people in Alberta willing/able to do the job would there not be so many 'interlopers' here?

Do these people not spend their money somewhere (more tax revenue)?

We complain about the transfer payment system in this country, yet begrudge hard earned dollars being funneled into formerly economicaly depressed regions in a non-socialistic manner?

And finally...... with some of the poor attitudes being put front and center for all to see on this thread, is it any wonder they call you snobs and stick to themselves? Wouldn't you if you were in the same position far from home?

You talk of respect my friend, yet show little. The true reality lies in the fact that WITHOUT these workers, our province would be nowhere in the neighbourhood of being where we economincaly are today. From where I'm sitting, I think that each and every one of us owes a giant 'thank you' to those who have left behind home and family to not only help themselves, but us ALL!

Have a great trip GWW. Wish I was going with, not for the salt but for the salmon. Although a good feed of snow crab and a few beer would be nice.

I too am from Newfoundland living in Alberta. I have been here for 15 years, married a beautiful woman from Lethbridge and am raising my kids here. I have heard the comments over the years about people from the east coast and really didn't pay any attention to it, but the comments on this tread in my opinion are truly pathetic. I love Alberta and love Newfoundland also, I have worked with ***holes from both places and like most people realize that your going to get them anywhere you go. It's sad to think people are so narrowed minded as to generalize a whole province like that.
Also in my line of work I am the BOSS.

Id love to see some of you guys talk like this up in the upgraders in fort mac. i promise you'll leave the plants with a lot less teeth then what you came in with. i can see people getting pi$$ed off if someone here put down alberta. but no one did. who cares where your from. leave it be, and sorry anyone from nfld. were not all classless douche bags.

honestly, I don't think re realized how it reads when he posted it...
On any other forum it might have been not too bad, but a fishing forum specific to a province, it's easy to step on toes with such a comment...

can't go back and edit after a little while, so damage control kicks in...

I can bet my bottom dollar that the guy is just stoked to get home on the ocean with his Dad to do the kind of fishing that exists only a couple of weeks a year anymore in Newfoundland...

no where in his post did he say a bad wordd about Albertans or alberta, yet look what came back at him...

and why so personal,...if the replies had been
"you fool, alberta fishing IS the real fishing" that would be one thing,..but to get so personal and such...
really?

he didnt have to call it real fishing.. some people dont get the chance to go and fish some of the great fishing that your provice has to offer. they just stay in there province and find the best thing there is to fish and they fish it.. just saying he could of worded it a bit different.

He certainly didn't have to use those words, ...

I would have liked to have seen the replies stay about fishing like in the OP...
somehow welfare and handouts and such get thrown in...

because a guy said "real fishing"

Post a pic of a big ol Bull Trout and say "take that !"

better response IMO

Hi Whitetailman.

The point the OP failed to properly articulate, was the fact that 'real fishing' to him ment salt water commercial stuff and NOT sportfishing with a rod and reel. Some let their egos and prejudices get ahead of their ability to comprehend, and thus represented the fine people and fine province of Alberta in a terribly embarassing manner. Good luck with the pike!

Just to add...

If anyone on this forum can get their own plane ticket (and can tolerate Newfoundlanders),..I have a place to stay and fish to be had,...no cost.
