Default Elk herd in Blackfoot

Does anybody know roughly how many elk are running around in there?

Probably 50-100? You can call the front gate and ask - they are pretty helpful with that information.

Make sure to save an antlerless one for me - I got my draw this year!

Not even close.

Has anyone actually looked at how large that enclosure is?
50-100 isn't yet touching the carrying capacity of 936

Actually I think its around 200-250... I don't know for sure but Elk Island park is about double the size of the Blackfoot and here are the numbers in there. Based on grazing capacity the numbers should match up.

I know Wikipedia isn't the most academic source but I think its close.

when thinking about carrying capacity don't forget the blackfoot is also a grazing area for moose deer and some ranchers.

A couple of weeks ago the fellow that stays out there in the summertime and looks after the place told me that there are 200 elk in the Blackfoot.

Figured you would but many people assume that there you do not need a draw...

Kind of like folks who think that Ministik is part of 248 which it is not

My guess was based on accounts from 2 years ago...so 200 seems pretty likely.

To those with tags; are you planning to hunt with primitive or non-restricted?
