The first neighbour almost directly to the west. . . . . . even though the rodent trashes their fields . . . . perhaps there is a special soft place in her heart for them.

Warm out today , saw 5 , got 4 . + 13 = 17 . I know it's cold , but keep this thread in mind when you get some varmints .

Bugle bull, the gophers you killed are protected under the "rodent wearing snowshoes act" fully enforced by the "farmer hates seeing anyone having fun" lawmakers. So quite cheating.

Snow is mainly gone in much of southern Alberta , Allan 14 , I like winter but have had enough .

Got 15 yesterday just south of Claresholm. Best part about yesterday is I had breakfast with a farmer buddy and got permission for 5 more sections of land to hunt them on. Woohoo. On a sadder note I used my Federal 22's that I got for Xmas and did not get one solid kill. I have put the box away and will only use them for target and sighting. Every shot was not an instant kill and at first I thought it was me but when I went to the gophers, each shot was in the kill zone but those Federals just don't seem to have the oomph that Eagle does. I may not like gophers but I will not be part of an animal suffering because I use an underpowered round.

I don't want to derail this but years ago I saw a half ton Chevy that was heaping with gophers from a gopher tournament from the Delbonita area. Just wondering if this is still happening.

You've gotta be kidding me right ? My buddy and I won that tournament ! Rules were: 2 man teams , bring back entire gopher , 4 hr time limit . We ran out of gophers to shoot in our area after 3 hrs and came back early and still won with 403 . Almost 3000 taken by folks attending that day . Talk about smell !

Maybe it was a different shoot if the gophers were in a truck box . We attended 4 of them as a team and won 3 times . The last time was the pic I have posted here , and no , the smell was not pleasant .
