Default Very cool pic, but it is reality

You never know what happened to the deer.
could have been clipped by a car and hobbled off into the ditch and died
so many variables.

nature is very very hard and usually does not make mistakes that last very long.

earlier last year, I was driving to work early morning and was on Shaganappi trail going under the 16th st bridge in Calgary, and I saw the car in front of me swurve in the road and cars in the other lane stopped, then I saw a group of younger ducks walking across the road.
I stopped and let them cross, its kinda funny when they hop up onto the curb
they were all a little bigger than new born, but were clearly not mature enough to fly,.................as i watched them cross, I thought where's the mom ? could not see her anywhere.

then a hawk swoops in and lands on the curb right in front of me and all the ducks went into a panic and scattered, ...................I watched the hawk, hop forward and latch onto one of the baby ducks and at the same time, open its wings and take flight............. in the case of your picture, does the hawk (coyote) no anything different than etching out a meager existence ?

like many others on here, I would drop the coyote in a second, but marveled in awe of the hawk................

just some thoughts

I don't mind shooting coyotes. But in saying that for me I like seeing all the wildlife including coyotes and wolves when I go out. Every animal has it's place in the eco system and I hope that my grandkids in 50 years will still be able to go out hunting and see all the wildlife that I'm fortunate enough to see every year. Thats a cool picture you have, but your attitude towards the coyote in it is questionable.

I agree……………….. I do have this weird fetish for torturing Mosquitoes though, sometimes fast, sometimes slow. Going to have to get me one of those A-Salt rifles with full auto capabilities….

Good point. I too will shoot a coyote if able, but not out of spite. Isn't it funny how someone will get a total hate on for a coyote who's just killing to eat or feed it's family, yet go out and pop a coyote, or a gopher, just for giggles. I'm no better, just think there's a bit of hypocrite in all of us at times.

Coyotes have been roaming these woods a lot longer than white men and our game cameras have. It's called nature, it happens everyday. I understand it can sting a bit to see a deer dead like that but we as humans really need to stop putting ourselves ahead of nature. It's the reason our eco-system is so messed up IMO.

Get a grip on reality, what are you a Bambi Lover?? Coyotes/wolves kill for food as we do including fawns. What did you think, wolves only kill sick full grown deer? I was up by Hinton a few years ago saw a bear grab a fawn, kinda cool.

Coyotes a predator just like me I respect his hunting abilities he needs to eat to i would rather see a few yotes take some deer rather than thousands slaughtered on a CWD CULL AND WAISTED

Coyotes are just being coyotes and I don't resent them for it, but I'm a predator as well. If those coyotes are in my hunting ground and it's legal, I'll shoot them any ethical chance I get. Same as any other predator will do. For people with ranching roots I understand when it's a little more personal. As long as they make their kills ethical and legal, I don't care what's in their hearts when they pull the trigger.

Sure they're natural, and I wouldn't support recreational helicopter hunting like I would with a feral or destructive species (like hogs in Texas, or predators endangering an at-risk population), but I cheer a little when one dies. Because we're a better predator.
