This isn't about keeping the herd dynamics on this hunt. They want/need elk gone. Don't sweat it a bunch. Kill one and be happy.

First you need to have them pee on a stick.

You not be able to visually identify pregnant from barren cows in January. You will likely not find the fetus without really looking carefully for it while gutting the cow.
If you need to reduce the odds that the cow is pregnant, then shoot a calf. Even then, some calves could be pregnant too.
Remember that this hunt is intended as a means to Reduce the elk population. Have no worries about taking a cow in January.

Silly to think this has anything to do with management...
Too all that were successful, good luck and enjoy the bad lands.

I've worked on the block every working day of the last 8 years and I can say, with certainty, that I have never seen so many Elk here as I did yesterday, quite offputing to see actually.

I was drawn for the 17-20 Nov hunt. Booking hotel room now (Wainwright last year was hard to get a room, so, lesson learned, book early. Lol)

Hotels in the Hat
Can anyone recommend a good hotel in Medicine Hat?
Ideally something on the NW end of the city as it is closest to the base.
Also, perhaps more importantly, something which is kid friendly, has a pool, watersides etc…. (I will have my entire family in tow). Or other things around the hotel which kids could do.
I’m considering the Medicine Hat Lodge Resort, Casino & Spa however it seems a little far East in the city.
Also considering the Days Inn, the Comfort Inn, and the Holiday Inn Express.

The Lodge is pretty much your best bet for lodging here with family... Close to everything and will add about 5 minutes to your commute to CFB.
Best of luck and enjoy your hunt.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn (I think that was the name anyways) last year. Fairly close to the east side of town, and about a 20min drive in the morning to the base. Nice hotel for the price and they were pretty easy going about bringing firearms in and out of the hotel everyday.

Dude the comfort inn was right on the west edge of town. It was a comfort inn but was in the process of changing hands.
Edit: comfort inn, or was it a quality inn? I can't remember. One of the first set of hotels right when you drive into town, and it was going to change names soon. Man I am no help at all lol

So, Suffield Noob question......Compared to Wainwright, is the travelling on base similar to Wainwright? Check-in/Out same same, what are the numbers like (fair-good opportunities to harvest an elk?).

Safety meeting, check in check out, wear blaze orange, submit heads. Depends which season your in for how your chances are. After the first shot is fired the elk run into the NWA (National Wildlife Area) and sit there laughing at you.
